Sport Report

The second half of this term has seen our School of Innovation and School of Possibilities students involved in the Winter Sport Carnival and Cross Country.  First to compete were our Year 9 to 11 students, fielding teams in girls’ and boys’ soccer, AFL and netball.  Our intermediate AFL players travelled to Mooroopna and, although undermanned and with the majority of players in the younger year level, battled out the day in trying conditions.  Our senior soccer girls played their games up to three players short at times but held their own against Greater Shepparton and Notre Dame, even leading for quite a bit of their second match.  Playing with only ten, the intermediate boys soccer team was very competitive and secured two victories while the senior soccer boys scored one win from their round robin.  Both of our netball teams braved the windswept courts of McEwen Reserve, notching up a handful of successes for the day.

For the first time since commencing as a college, students were offered the opportunity to compete in clay target shooting.  With very strict supervision ratios being applied, this opportunity was heavily oversubscribed and six fortunate competitors were randomly drawn to take part.  Year 11 student, Matisse O’Brien hoisted the flag for St Anne’s College as the winner of the senior girls’ competition.  Matisse was very pleased with her result as she had not previously fired a shotgun.  As an added bonus, supervising staff were also given an opportunity to have a go (Christian may well fancy himself as an extra for the filming of any upcoming “spaghetti westerns”).

Our local cross country entries were not as strong as previous years, however, we were still very competitive as a school with fourteen students from Years 7 to 10 gaining a place at the Hume Region competition to be run on Friday, June 16.

Around seventy Year 7 and 8 students participated in the Junior Winter Sport Carnival with soccer, AFL, netball and clay target shooting being the preferred options.  We were able to field Year 7 and Year 8 boys’ soccer teams, Year 7 and Year 8 netball teams, a not quite full AFL team and take a small group of participants to clay target shooting.  While we didn’t have any winning individuals or teams the students and staff had an enjoyable day.  Hopefully this will lead to even more students wanting to compete for our College when the Junior Summer Carnival is held early in Term 4.

Fruits of the Valley Cyclo-Cross 2023 At Shepparton Velodrome - Free Entry for Novice Riders

To be held on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd July 2023. Suitable for novice to experienced cyclists.

The Shepparton Cycling Club is currently getting ready to run a 2 day Cycling event which is rounds 3 and 4 of the Victorian Cyclo Cross State Series, Shepparton Fruits of the Valley Cyclo-Cross 2023.

In 2021 the Shepparton Cycling Club hosted the Inaugural Fruits of the Valley Cyclo-Cross and included into the Victorian State Series in 2022. They were a huge success, and we plan on making the 2023 event even bigger and better.

This event is from novice to experienced cyclists for all ages. Cyclo Cross is a little similar to Mountain Bike riding whereby you follow a marked out course where obstacles are placed along the way for you to ride through or over.

This event will attract many locals, state, and national competitors accompanied by support staff to the City of Greater Shepparton Council. It is expected that we attract 300 competitors and up to 1000 support staff and spectators.

The Shepparton Cycling Club is a well-established sporting club in Shepparton which has been providing cycling to the Shepparton district for over 90 years. We are proud to have been the starting ground for many Olympians and current World Champions. The Club hopes to carry on this tradition into the future with the next generation as they come through the ranks.

Junior Novice riders can turn up to the event on the day. Be there before Saturday at 5pm to register on Saturday or before Midday for Sunday to enter. All Novice junior riders will receive participation prizes.

Please contact the President Wendy Abbott MOB 0467941167 (After 1pm ) or Vice President Brad Higgins MOB 0418 350 840 if you would like more information on this event.
