Junior School Update

Years 7 - 9

Assistant Principals' Update

Brooke Roy (7&8) and Matthew Bodley (9)

Congratulations to our 7s, 8s and 9s who have really taken Term 2 in their stride. Colder weather, building projects and moving parts throughout the school has seen our Junior School really adapt to the different timetables and programs on offer, particularly at Recess and Lunch. We have seen a huge increase in students cashing their Positive Rewards points which we love and hear that the Snack Packs are a winner! We were also extremely proud of our Junior School students in Reconciliation Week. Our 7s - 9s really leant into the activities on offer and were fantastic allies to our Western Port Mob. Term 3 is packed with Junior School events/programs and we encourage you to keep an eye on the Key Dates section and Compass calendar to be up to date. Matt and I also would like to thank our Junior School families for their open communication and for reaching out across the term for support - we are always here to help!

We wish our students and families the best mid year break and look forward to seeing our students ready and raring to go in Term 3 - Semester 2.

Year 7 Update

Lucy Anderson and Tiegan Whitby

Our Year 7 students have had a fantastic Term 2. We are thrilled to share with you the incredible achievements and whirlwind of activity that made the term a resounding success.

It has been an eventful period during which our Year 7s enthusiastically embraced various opportunities and experiences.

Our Year 7 Sport Program saw our netballers displaying exceptional teamwork, dedication and sportsmanship during their interschool sports day. We were so proud of their efforts and the way they represented our college. Reconciliation Week held special significance as our Year 7s actively engaged in activities that promoted understanding, respect and harmony. We also had a number of Year 7 students participate in the Winter Concert where their talents were very much on show. Our term was topped off with a celebratory excursion to Gravity Zone. This was a brilliant opportunity for our students to let their hair down after a jam-packed term!

As we reach the halfway point in the year, we eagerly anticipate the transition into their Year 8 journey. Term 3 will again be a busy one with exciting activities, opportunities and challenges ahead. On offer in Sport Education next term is: Fitness, Lacrosse, Touch Rugby and Hunger Games. We are excited to continue to watch our Year 7s flourish and grow. We remain committed to supporting their development and providing them with every opportunity to succeed. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to celebrating another positive term.

Year 8 Update

Xavier Mclaurin and Jade Kairys

Term 2 has been a time for programs. The Leaders in Training [LIT] Squad completed their volunteering at Somers Primary School, with positive praise received from senior students and their teachers for the invaluable help provided in their Inspire program. The LIT squad will continue their focus on community in participating in intergenerational visits to The Bays Aged Care, joining the elderly residents in their afternoon activities such as arts and crafts, trivia, board games and other activities.

The Youth Excellence Stream [YES] Program has commenced participating in a world first Global Design Challenge with Swinburne University in which it will be completing a number of STEM investigations around innovation and sustainability, partnering and collaborating with another STEM class from the Gateway College situated in Columbo, Sri Lanka. The first task, designing and constructing robotic waste bins as a solution to rubbish in schools.

We are so proud of all of our Year 8s for their efforts this term and look forward to a great Semester 2 as our students move into Food Technology and Performing Arts. Also on offer in Sport Education next term is: Fitness, Lacrosse, Touch Rugby and Hunger Games.

Year 9 Update

Poppy Hunter and Georgia Pulling

Wow! What a busy and exciting Term 2 we have had in Year 9! The term started off with some amazing Respectful Relationships sessions with Cathy our school Nurse and then it was straight into all things – Careers & Pathways! Monash came to visit for an incursion that gave us a little taster of University and TAFE experiences to come, and we then followed this up by creating our Career Action Plans. Students worked so hard on their Career Action Plans, that they also had the chance to create a Resume and many students were so keen, they printed them out there and then, ready to hand out down High Street! A predominant part of the term has also been spent completing Morrisby, a fantastic platform that we are utilizing to further help our students with their career direction and course counselling. Every Year 9 student has grown both emotionally and academically this term as we quickly head towards Senior School. We look forward to another amazing term of learning and have a great break!
