Health and Wellbeing Promotion

WPSC Wellbeing Team

This term the wellbeing team have been busy with many pro-active programs.  These programs have resulted in over 2000 school wide positive interactions with students. In addition to the social and emotional counselling support we offer for our students, we have our Mental Health Practitioner who can support young people with more complex concerns.

The programs this term were Drumbeat, Art Therapy, Map My World, Grow, Q Space (lunchtime area for those who want some quiet time), Craft Club on Wednesday lunchtimes in Rm 13 and Pride Rangers which is LGBTIQ+ lunchtime club for our students.

We have a magnificent Breakfast Club each Thursday. This is run by our church community volunteers who provide a delicious breakfast for our students each week.

Our DSM (Defence School Mentor) also offers extra wellbeing support for students of our ADF families who attend the school.  This Semester there has been special hot chip and pizza lunches for ADF students.

The Identity Project has been running this term and is designed specifically for our First Nations students and supported by the Mornington Peninsula Youth Team who work out of Shed 11- Hastings in conjunction with the Headspace support team. This Program will continue into Term 3 and 4.

Currently, our Wellbeing Team consists of: Wellbeing Coordinator, Mental Health Practitioner, School Nurse (2 days focused on Health promotion and sexual health) Defence School Mentor/Chaplain, and Counsellor.

This year as a school we are also focusing on BASE an acronym to help students consider their own self-care and how making simple adjustments to their routine can improve their mental health.

Alongside our whole school BASE focus, we also have a number of health and wellbeing activities/incursions across each week for next term. If you would like your child considered for one of the programs below please get in contact with your child's Home Group teacher!
