YEAR 5 SPIRIT FILLED EVENING
Interview by Aisha & Josh
What did you talk about and why?
Finn: The topic for the spirit filled evening was about homeless people and how we think that they are just people on the side of the road with no money, and if we try and help, we can make a difference. We also talked about how COTS was created by Rose and how she was fascinated by Mother Theresa. Rose thought that she would donate her birthday money to help build a well in Cambodia. Then in 2016 Rose passed a window and saw homeless people sitting on the floor. Then she went up to one of the people and asked, “what is your dream christmas gift?” She then started telling everyone about this and had a whole list of dream presents. She put the list and made an event on Facebook. It was called Christmas on the Streets. Lots of people donated items and voluntered to help deliver them. Over a 100 people came and dropped off the gifts and thats is how COTS (Christmas on the Streets), was formed.
Eden- In the spirit filled evening Rose talked about the homeless crisis, and about how people thought that homeless people couldn't have a say because they were considered beggars. They learnt that if they ever saw a homeless person to recognise them, and try and help instead of walking right past them.
What was your favorite part?
Eden- There was this one person she met called Simon and he came into the Christmas event and all he asked for was a haircut. It was my favorite because he emailed back and said when he got the haircut it reminded him of when he wasn’t homeless.
Finn: My favorite part was when they told us about Simon.

Year 3/4 students took part in an indigenous cultural tour of local areas. This included a tree of cultural significance in Carrum Downs Industrial Estate and Peninsula Link.
We liked the ochre on our face and the saltbush and the smell of the fire at The Briars.
What did you learn and what did you do?
They learnt how to do a dance where you copied an animal movements. They also learnt that the salt from the saltbush is healthier than regular salt.

CLASS OF 2018 REUNION
Interview by Camila and Viola
What happened at the Reunion?
Tracey: We had about 30 students and their parents from the class of 2018 come back to see our beautiful new building. They were the last Year 6s before the new building was completed, so they came back to have a look and we took them on a tour.
How old are they now?
Tracey: They are 16 and 17 years old and they are really tall!
Did you recognise them?
Tracey: I sat my desk on Friday afternoon and looked at their year 6 photo and I remembered all their names but on Friday night, some of them looked really different to what they did in Year 6. I recognised a few really easily but had to guess a couple of names.
Tracey had a funny story: All the boys and girls found a basketball and went out to play just like they did in Year 6. When it was time to do the tour, I rang the bell and they lined up! On our walk around the school we visited Mrs Harrison's classroom and they all sat down like they were at primary school again. They loved being back at St Brigid's and they though everythign was really small! Some of them hadn't seen each other for a long time.
What happened at the end?
Tracey - After the tour they had donuts, sushi and soft drinks and they all had a lovely catch up. They listened to the school song and tried reciting the acknowledgement of the country. Right before they went they all sat on the stage and took a photo just like when they were in Year 6. It was so nice to see them after 5 years. They are a really wonderful group young people and we are very proud of them.
A big thank you to Enza Longstaff and Lee-Ann Sullivan for organising the night.
SOCCER GOALS
by Tom and Josh
Thankyou to the Roberts family for their kind donation and installation of our new Soccer Goals. They created much excitement for the beginning of Term 3.
Was it fun to build soccer goals? Do you think it will bring joy to the other students?
Levi: It was interesting and fun to build soccer goals and great to bring joy to other students. I think it will bring joy to the other students because we have been waiting for it for a longtime and we always disagree about whether it is in or not when we used jumpers as goals.
