On-farm Composting Workshop
In conjunction with the Leschenault Catchment Council, the College hosted an on-farm composting workshop which enabled farmers and our students to attend and learn of the essentials of making compost, compost quality and testing. The day was attended by 24 farmers, Ms Warden and some year 10 students.
The College is keen to pursue the idea of making compost out of all waste products from the dairy, chooks, pigs and College kitchen which can then be used around the gardens and the farm.
Beef AI program
This week Mr Edwards, Ms Quilty and Mr Sullivan have been completing the final week of our Beef AI program, this program has given our students some valuable experience in cattle handling and drafting calves over the past few weeks, time for the bulls to go out.
Staffing
Last week we said goodbye to Bronte Holmes, our Dairy Technical Officer. Bronte had been with us since the beginning of 2021 and in that time she had made a significant contribution to the College dairy enterprise. We were sad to see her leave, but we all wish her the best for the future.
During the upcoming school holidays farm staff will be involved in some professional development with South Regional TAFE delivering the AusChem course to upskill in chemical handling and application.
