ANZAC  DAY

An ANZAC Day Commemoration was held at school during our whole-school assembly on Friday 28th April.

Our School Captains led this service which included a reading of the Ode of Remembrance and observance of one minute of silence. Our Captains began by explaining to students the significance of ANZAC Day, why we commemorate this day on the 25th April and the background and meaning behind the Ode of Remembrance.

Students have also been learning about ANZAC day in their classrooms this week.

On ANZAC Day our school captains and some of our Junior Rotary Award students met at the Criterion Hotel to participate in the ANZAC Day march and service. Mr Nicholls, Mrs Landmeter and Ms Ross  met the students and they assembled for the march with many other Trafalgar Community and school groups. Led by our school captains, the students marched to the Trafalgar RSL and then listened to and participated in the ANZAC Day commemoration service. Our School Captains laid a wreath at the cenotaph on behalf of our school community to pay our respects.  It was wonderful to see several of our Trafalgar Primary School students in uniform representing other community groups at the service, such as Scouts, Cubs and the Junior Fire Brigade. Thank you to those students who participated.

District Athletics Update

After a washout in March, the Warragul District Athletics competition was re-run on the first day back of Term 2.

45 Trafalgar PS students battled it out with students from others schools in the district across a variety of the track and field events. From sprints and relays to the high jump and shot put, every event was hotly contested, with our students pushing themselves to the limit in the pursuit of victory.

Not only was the day a great display of athletic talent, but it also highlighted the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play. The spirit of camaraderie was evident throughout the day, with our students congratulating each other on their achievements and supporting those who may not have placed as highly. Overall, it was a spectacular event, and everyone involved should be very proud of their efforts.

A special congratulations goes to the six Trafalgar PS students who placed in the top two at the Warragul District Athletics competition and thereby managed to qualify for the West Gippsland Divisional Athletics competition: Summer A (1500m), Lara N (800m), Sienna G (Long Jump), Aurora W (800m), Mason G (Hurdles), and Mason H (High Jump).

The West Gippsland Divisional Athletics competition took place on Tuesday the 2nd of May. All six of our students performed admirably against some of the most talented student-athletes in all of West Gippsland. All of them should be very proud of their achievements and the way that they represented our school at this event.

A special congratulations goes to Mason H who took out 3rd place in the High Jump, and Summer A who took out 2nd place in the 1500m. These two students will now progress to the Gippsland Regional Athletics competition in October, where they will fight it out with the best student-athletes in all of Gippsland for a place at the School Sports Victoria State Championship.

Music Update

This term in music, F-2 will be doing a unit using Xylophones and Glocenspiels and then moving into rhyming lyrics and songwriting using a variety of instruments and voice.

3-6 Classes will be working in small groups using Jamhubs. They will be playing some cover songs before finishing the term with a unit on songwriting.

In Terms 2 and 3 this year music classes will be starting each lesson by listening and interacting with 2 songs and then voting for one of the songs.

We will eliminate songs until a winner is chosen. The theme for this vote is 80s vs Current (2020s – present).

Here is the chart that will update each week after the votes are counted - 2023 song of the year - 80s vs Current (2020 - present)
