We look forward to another term of engaging and exciting learning for all students at Trinity!
The Learning Overviews for Term 2 are attached to this School Newsletter in our Principal's News page. We encourage you to read these, as the overviews will outline the learning that will be undertaken at each year level for this term.
This week I ran a Parent Helper Workshop for parents interested in helping in classrooms. The workshop covered how you could support in your child's class. We discussed things like - what it means to be a parent helper, confidentiality, strategies that you could use to support students with their Reading, as well as how you can go about getting your Working With Children Check. Helping in classes will commence in Week 2 this term. A special thank you to the parents who were able to make it and offer their help. We appreciate your time and we value our partnership in supporting the children at Trinity with their learning. If you missed this session but would still like to help, please come and see me or your child's teacher.
You may remember that last year we took part in Shared Stories: an anthology of students writing and art work around the theme 'Imagine if...'. Many children produced inspiring pieces of writing and/or art work which were submitted for publication to Shared Stories, amongst work from other Catholic primary and secondary schools all over Victoria. This was an extraordinary publication with over 500 pages of students' work. It was an honour for the children at Trinity to be part of this publication and we were so proud of what the children contributed. They produced meaningful pieces of writing and/or art work in which they expressed their hopes, dreams and/or challenges around the theme ‘Imagine if …’ which will serve as inspiration for others.
Here is a link to a slideshow where you will be able to read each written submission:
There was also a virtual launch for the Anthology which can be accessed via YouTube through this link:
This year we will once again participate in Shared Stories. All students will be invited to write or create a piece of art around this years theme 'Inspire'. They will be given opportunites in class and in Writing Club to explore the theme and create something meaningful to them. It may be a response in the form of art work, a poem, a story or a personal reflection... whatever they choose. Shared Stories is housed in the State Library of Victoria. Each child who contributes will receive their own copy of this beautiful publication to treasure at home. We look forward to working on this in Term 2.
Some Year 5/6 students from the Writing Club or those students who have shown an interest in working towards a writing piece for this years Shared Stories Anthology will be attending this year's Writers Festival. This is quite a sought after event and very difficult to obtain tickets, so we are absolutely thrilled that we are able to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to listen to a variety of talented and well known authors in this spectacular setting.
Please log onto the Melbourne Writers Festival website for further information: https://mwf.com.au/schools
It is a full day at the State Library and the program for the day is as follows:
On Wednesday this week, our Science Teacher Mrs Foley ran the Bebras Challenge with some of our very keen Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students. Bebras is an international initiative aiming to promote Computer Science among school students of all ages. The Bebras Challenge is open twice a year to Australian students in Years 3-12 and engages students' computational thinking and problem solving skills. This was a great learning experince for our students!
(Please refer to the Term 2 Learning Overviews for specific learning events at each level)
