ANZAC Day

In Australia and New Zealand, the main day for commemorating the nation’s war dead is Anzac Day, 25 April.  This is in distinction to the UK’s focus on 11th November (Remembrance Day), Canada’s Memorial Day (1 July)  the USA’s Memorial Day (last Monday in May), and so on.  The 25th of April 1915 was the day of the ANZAC troops’ landing at Gallipoli.  The first time the 25th of April was kept as a day of commemoration was in 1916.

On Monday, 3/4 TR led our school in an ANZAC service. We had the opportunity to commemorate the heroes who fought for our and other countries' freedom.

ANZAC prayer

God of love and liberty,

we bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy,

which was won for us through the courage and devotion

of those who gave their lives in time of war.

We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain,

but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come.

That the liberty, truth and justice which they sought

to preserve may be seen and known in all the nations upon earth.

This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world,

Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
