Foundation/1

This term the students have begun, examining different printmaking techniques. So far, they have been learning how prints are a copy of an image. This week they have been using prints of a line to create a picture of their choosing. Next week, they will be exposed to printing through a series of rotations;  including stamping, rolling and pressing prints onto pieces of paper. Later, students will be extending their knowledge of printmaking by exploring the artwork of Spanish Artists Joaquin Torres Garcia and  Joan Miro.

Here are some photos of the F/1's making their prints:

Grade 2/3's

The students in the Grade 2/3 have been putting the finishing touches to their 'Pájaros del Amazonas'. They have learnt how to make armatures and construct wings and beaks using cardboard, papier mache and glue. Finally, they explored different design techniques to paint their birds, students were also allowed to add additional embellishments; by adding googly eyes, feathers, beads and sequins; to add further interest to their artwork.

Here are some of the spectacular designs that the 2/3's have created during this unit:

Grades 4/5 and 6

Students in the Grades 4-6 have been extremely busy finishing off their Sevilla Posters, while also learning all about Mexican Alebrijes. Last week, they were introduced to the folk art of Mexican Alebrijies, which were created by artist Pedro Linares in the 1940’s. Alebrijies are mythical Mexican creatures created using different animal parts; similar to the character Pepita, in the Disney movie “Coco”. Students have been having fun mixing up different animals and creating their own alebrije. In the next few weeks, students will be modelling their alebrije using terracotta clay.
