Funky Friday's Lunchtime Club presents this week's leadership rep
Espero que todos hayan tenido una semana fantástica en Newlands. Bienvenidos al boletín de esta semana.
A third of the term has been completed! That is 1/3 , 33.3%, .33, which has been one of many of the focus that has been taking place during Maths Club this week. It has been so rewarding to both Graeme and I working with students across all grades with a variety of different learning goals! Big thank you to the students and parents for coming to these sessions on time, ready to go and for their continued support at home.
This week David and Nuria from the Spanish Consulate visited Newlands. They both continue to be champions of our school and support our Bilingual program. It was great to have them go through our classrooms and to see their smiles! We are so proud of our dual language program and as witnessed by both David and Nuria, we ensure it is delivered through fun and engaging learning experiences.
The first practice of the Victorian State School Spectacular was this week. This is an amazing experience for our students to meet and work with students from schools all over Victoria. This is a massive commitment by the students as they have to learn multiple dances over the next 12 weeks. I want to thank Laura for her effort in ensuring that our students have this opportunity.
It was Mother’s appreciation day today and while it is integral to acknowledge how incredible they are, it is also very noteworthy to honour the deliciousness that was the ‘Values Sandwich’. I am not stating that the food will start a craze in our local community, but I am definitely not saying it won't. A big thank you to Raul, Graeme, Jose, Raema, Karren & Juan for waking up early to help cook and serve the deliciousness that was presented.
It's finally happening. Thank you for your patience and willingness to brave the cold weather tonight to join in on the outside screening of Encanto. Watch out for our favourite School Council President Adam Palmer, who may or may not be dressing up as one of the characters. Make sure you bring the blankets! The school is really lucky to have such an engaged parent community who give up their time to set up these events! Prices are below!!
Next Wednesday, students will be involved in a range of activities to coincide with IDAHOBIT. This is just one event on the Newlands Calendar that continues to promote inclusivity and celebrate diversity. Our Wellbeing School Leaders have organised the following event for next Wednesday! Please read below for more information and follow the link or more information about IDAHOBIT: Home | IDAHOBIT
The F/1s have been using the Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships resource to support students in building students understanding of different perspectives, help seeking and problem-solving. You may have heard your children talking about the fantastic discussions and insights the students have been sharing from the Short and Curly kids ethical question podcast.
I would also like to inform the F/1 community that Jacqui will be on leave. We are lucky to have Rebecca replace (a CRT regular) taking over until Jacqui returns.
The 2/3s are creating a map of their own cities or zoos. After a bird’s eye view map of Sydney, they realised anyone has the ability to successfully create their own city. The students will be learning about perimeters, coordinates, 2D and 3D objects, angles and rotations as they design and create their new innovative spaces.
I wanted to give our 4/6 families an insight into their child’s teachers planning session this week. While the students are off enjoying the specialist program (please see other pages), the 4/6s are hard at work using data, sharing learnings from professional readings and creating engaging learning experiences that meet the needs of the students. While this takes place in all teams, it was just a pleasure to hear the teachers celebrate their successes in Maths this week. To hear the excitement from teachers when they discussed individual students’ successes, celebrated lessons and how students were implementing feedback, created a room full of energy and positivity!
Next Wednesday, the Cross-Country District Finals will be taking place. We wish all of our students representing our school the best. The question on everyone’s mind is can it top the awesomeness of the Newlands Primary School Cross Country Day. Big thanks to Jose for putting this perfect montage together.
Tim, Melissa and Kirsty are the cool cats leading the Buildings & Grounds committtee this year. They are getting fired up for the first Working Bee for 2023. Make sure you clear the calendar!
I look forward to seeing everyone tonight to not talk about Bruno.
Thanks,
Luke
