From the Principal

Happy Mothers Day

I hope all of our Lalor East mothers were able to enjoy a wonderful Mother's Day over the weekend. Celebrated on the second Sunday of May each year, Mother's Day is an opportunity to honor and celebrate all of the amazing mothers. It is a time to show them how much we love and appreciate them for all the hard work they do to take care of us.

It is also important to remember that not everyone has a traditional mother figure in their lives so this special day is also a time to recognise and appreciate the grandmothers, aunts, teachers, friends and other significant women who have who have stepped up and taken on the role of a mother in our lives.

There are many different ways to celebrate Mother's Day and I know our students all had their own special ways to show their mothers how much they love them. Some gave   flowers or gifts, while others made breakfast in bed or took them out for a special meal.

Some of those special gifts came from our Mother's Day stall at school. Thanks to Katie Nelson, Amanda Bull, Valentina Josifoska, Lauren Bernays, Crystal Irineos along with Robyn and Bev from the office for their assistance in running the stall. Special thanks also to our School Council President, Carly Georgakopoulos, for sourcing the items and assisiting with our stall. We managed to raise over $900 which will go towards our P-2 Playground Redevelopment Project.

No matter how you celebrated the day, the most important thing is that you took the time to let your mum know how much she means to you. It is often easy to take our mothers for granted sometimes, but they do so much for us and they deserve to be recognized and appreciated.

To all the mothers out there, thank you for everything that you do. You are truly amazing and our students are so lucky to have you in their lives. And to all the children out there, I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend and that you took the time to show your mum just how much you appreciate and love her.

Staffing Updates

Last week, we farewelled Karren Moncur and Dimitra Vassiliou. Both Karren and Dimitra have been long term members of staff with Karren starting at Lalor East in 1987 and Dimitra in 1993. Both of them have made significant contributions to our school over the many years they have been part of the LEPS family. We would like to thank them both sincerely for their commitment to our school and wish them every success for the future.

New Look Newsletter

For this edition of Jumbunna, we are experimenting with a new look. Given that our newsletter is now published electronically and most families read the newsletter on a phone or tablet, this new format will automatically adjust the layout depending on the device you are using to read the newsletter; hopefully making it easier for you to read.

It will also allow for information to be translated into a number of different languages and provide us with data on the number of newsletter views.

Playground Additions

Installation of our new P-2 Basketball towers was completed last week.

These hoops redirect the ball randomly when a goal is shot successfully through the hoop. It will be interesting to see if they are as popular as the playground, sandpit or the ‘gigi pit’ with our younger students.

School Photos

Greg and the team from Creative Exposures visted the school last Tuesday to complete class photos and individual portraits. We will advise families once photos have been delivered to the school.

Year 7 Transition Forms

Our Year 6 students have been provided with forms and the placement information pack to support their enrolment at secondary school for 2024. If you need further details or a copy of the form, these can be accessed from Compass.  A reminder that forms need to be returned to Hannah Sutherland at school as soon as possible so we can facilitate student’s secondary school requests.
