Lockers & Corridors

Student locks should be a combination lock purchased from the General office at the start of the year. If students choose to use a padlock, they are to hand a spare key to their Level Leader. The Assistant Principal/College Improvement Team will allocate lockers to students at the start of the year and when there are new enrolments through the year. Subschool staff will then manage the day to day issues, including any changes.

Students are able to access their lockers before school and at the beginning and end of lunchtime. Students should collect their books for classes during these times. At other times (during class time, during changeovers and during breaks) students should not be in corridors or at lockers unless they have a signed pass in their planner. Students should not be out of class during class time. If it is necessary to allow a student to leave class, a note should be made in their planner and reference be made to time out of class, destination and approved purpose for absence from class and the student MUST carry their Planner with them when they leave the classroom.

Student Toilets

Students should be encouraged to use the toilets during their breaks. Students in Y7-9 should use the Junior Toilets and students in Y10-12 should use the Senior Toilets-after handover of the buildings on 5 Feb. However, if a toilet visit is deemed necessary, then a note should be written in the student’s planner – have the student record time of leaving class and the teacher signs this pass. The main student toilets will be locked during class time and during class time, there is a unisex/disabled toilet available in both Junior and Senior Buildings block for student use. To use the toilets, students need to present their note at the relevant Subschool Office to collect key after signing in the register. Staff are reminded that the toilets are not available in the first 10 and last 10 mins of each lesson. Teachers are also reminded that only one student from each class can be sent at the same time. In both the Junior and Senior female Toilets and the Admin Disabled toilets, there are dispenser units stocked with female sanitary supplies which are maintained by DET.

In the case of an emergency, students may also have access to the General Office unisex/disabled/guest toilet with the same process-note in Planner signed by teacher. There is an additional toilet available in the First Aid room.

Canteen & Lunch Orders

8:20 am – 8:53 am Before school

12.00 am – 12.40 pm Lunch (the Canteen will close at the locker bell at 12.33pm)

Students should be encouraged to place an order before school at the canteen and will be provided with a ticket or using the QKR app which provides an electronic receipt on a phone. Students can collect their order from the designated area/s in the Canteen

*Students who have forgotten their lunch should be referred to the relevant Sub-school who will co-ordinate appropriate support.

First Aide

The First Aid Room is in the Admin Building. If students are unwell during class or suffer an injury, teachers are to sign the student Planner and direct students to the First Aid staff at the General Office-consider sending this student with another student for safety and duty of care. If the matter is urgent and requires immediate response, staff from either Sub-school or the General Office can be called upon to render first aid assistance. Staff Support Card can also be used if appropriate. There are also basic First Aid supplies in the Junior and Senior Sub-Schools, Gym, Kitchen, Woodwork and Science areas. If students have been in the First Aid Room during breaks and will be late to class, they will be issued with a pass signed by the first aid staff member.

For minor first aid during class time, including a band aid for existing injury, students may be referred to the nearest Sub-School Office. Records of student attendance for first aid are to be maintained in CASES.

First aid kits are provided and maintained by the First Aide Officer. Basic First aid kits are available in each of the Buildings for easy access:

Visitors

All visitors to the College must report to the General Office and are expected to sign in. at the General Office If appropriate, they will also be issued with a visitor’s badge-usually not required if visitor is a tradesperson or delivery person wearing Company logos. No person will be allowed to visit or attend the College without appropriate authorisation. Any person found wandering the school should be directed to the General Office and the Office staff informed.

Leaving College Grounds

Year 7-12 students are to stay within the grounds of the College, marked by perimeter fencing, at all times during the school day. Students leaving the College grounds with parents or written permission from parents/guardians, are required to inform relevant Sub-School and then sign out/in at the relevant Sub-School Office. Sub-School staff will enter student absence into COMPASS and teachers are reminded not to over-write this information when marking rolls.

Student Cars

Students are encouraged NOT to drive cars to school. Students who bring cars to school are expected to park them on the side streets and not to park them on College property. They are not to allow other students to be passengers in their car whilst travelling to and from school, or during school hours. The exception to this is the transport to and from the College of siblings. Issues should be reported to the Senior Sub-School.

Year 12 Common Room

There is a Year 12 Study Room/Locker Room in the Senior Learning Building. This area is to be kept clean and tidy at all times and is a designated study area during class times. During breaks, Year 12 students may eat their lunch and sit passively-active games are banned inside, both for safety and for damage potential. Students will develop protocols and a roster in consultation with the Senior Sub-School team.

Study Periods (VCE)

During non-timetabled classes and classes that have been suddenly cancelled, VCE/VCAL students should initially report to the Senior Sub-School for instructions and then to attend the library or the Common Room, as negotiated. Socialising and games should be confined to recess and lunch breaks. When teachers are unavailable for classes during Period 1 or 5 or immediately adjacent to Study Periods, students in Years 11 (including Y10 EAL) and Year 12 may be notified not to attend school and their class cancelled so as not to record an absence for the student. If students attend during a cancelled class, they are able to study in the Common Room or Library.

Excursions

Excursion approval forms are available from the Daily Organiser’s office or in Teams (Staff). Staff (including Canteen), on whom the excursion impacts, need to be consulted prior to seeking permission from Consultative Committee. Excursions that are not curriculum-based or inter-school sport, will not be considered. Students wishing to participate in inter-school activities must be up to date with their classwork and released by their teachers. Once the form is completed, it can be lodged with the Daily Organiser who will seek approval from the Consultative Committee. Staff will be notified of the result. Approval must be sought at least 2 weeks before the excursion. Students will be issued with a specific parental permission note issued from the General Office. Students then return money/notes to the General Office at least one week prior to the excursion. Mobile phones and MYKI tickets may be available from the General Office for staff to take on excursions-please book them ahead of time.

Staff (Officer in Charge) on excursions are also required to:

Notify the canteen and attendance staff in advance, of the activity details
Announce the excursion at briefing
Post a list of participants in Teams and hand a copy to office staff
Notify relevant attendance staff on the day once the roll is marked

VCE/VCAL students may be involved in research outside the College without a teacher. If the excursion is during school hours, you will need to complete an unsupervised excursion form. This form is available from the Daily Organiser’s office and in Teams.

Students must obtain permission from the teachers whose classes they will miss. If permission is not given, the excursion may need to be rescheduled
The forms must be completed at least two weeks prior to the excursion and in consultation with the Consultative Committee which meets fortnightly (check the meeting schedule)
Students will not be able to transport other students in private vehicles
