Induction Process

We provide an induction process for all new and returning (from extended leave) staff appointed to Glenroy College in order to:
1. Establish a supportive welcome for staff
2. Ensure all staff are familiar with key directions in education at Glenroy College and that they have access to information and/or training in these areas
3. Ensure awareness of curriculum programs, assessment and reporting policies, staff responsibilities and decision making processes, student code of conduct and other operational areas of the College
Stage of Induction
1. Induction before school resumes or on day 1 of appointment
2. You will be invited to meet with other new staff to discuss key directions in teaching and learning at Glenroy College through an informal question and answer session
3. You will be provided with a staff handbook, curriculum handbook and other handbooks as appropriate. These are all available on Resource drive/Publications/Glenroy College/Handbooks and are published in Microsoft Teams/Staff
- You will be introduced to a Buddy and/or Mentor. They will be your initial sources of information about the year level, learning area and school operations. Experienced staff will be introduced to a buddy. Graduate staff will be introduced to a buddy and a mentor.
- We aim to run meetings and professional development throughout the year to respond to the specific needs of new staff. These will vary from individual to group sessions.
FOR PROVISIONALLY REGISTERED TEACHERS:
We aim to recognise the specific needs of Beginning/Graduate teachers.
- You will be allocated a mentor who will meet with you regularly
- You will be supported throughout the completion of your VIT portfolio, as requested
- You will be encouraged to undertake relevant and agreed Professional Learning, with valuable and strategic in-house opportunities, including classroom observations
Through your mentor, you can initiate strategies such as:
- observing other teachers' classes - (classroom management strategies, teaching and learning approaches etc.)
- collaborative program planning
- resource sharing
- receiving feedback on your classes, use of data to inform planning and teaching
Opportunities to meet regularly with Senior staff will also be provided through Term 1 and then as requested.
