Professional Learning

Teachers should ensure that they remain familiar with recent developments in their own subject areas by an ongoing process of Professional Learning through reading professional books and journals, attending internal and external training programs and talking widely to colleagues at Glenroy College and other schools.
Teachers are required to complete an adequate level of Professional Learning in line with VIT requirements in order to renew registration. They are also required to pay the annual VIT registration fee and complete required processes to maintain their VIT registration. Graduate staff will be required to fulfil registration requirements in line with VIT guidelines. The College will maintain an individual PL record for PL approved or run through the school. Staff are also encouraged to maintain their own records and make use of the MYVIT and LearnED system, where appropriate.
Staff may apply for time release from duties and funding of external PL if it is specifically related to the College Annual Implementation Plan (AIP). Pre-approval must be sought from relevant Domain Leader/s and the Admin Committee for all PL via COMPASS. Teachers are reminded to seek prior approval for release to attend any PL before any monies are paid as re-imbursement is not guaranteed until after CC approval (or Principal pre-approval) is granted.
The College will be responsible for Professional Learning (PL) through:
- Whole-school Professional Learning (as determined by the Principal)
- PL through Domain area meetings
- PL through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Releasing and/or paying for teachers to attend selected external PL programs
It is expected that:
- All staff complete and maintain an annual Performance and Development Review document based on College and individual professional goals
- Staff keep a record of their own Professional Learning.
