Museum Update

An Update On The Frankston High School Museum
I thought people might be interested to know how the Museum is faring a year or so after its inception.
The good news is that it is proving to have been a really good idea! The amount of donations from ex-students is continuing and we have been lucky enough to gain some fantastic items from the past. Our range of artefacts now covers the earliest days of the school based at Quality Street through to recent years on the Foot Street and Towerhill Road campuses.
We have student exercise books from the 1940’s and a complete set of uniform from the 1950’s. Beautiful framed photos from the 1920’s and 1930’s document some of the earliest sporting teams but we also have examples of the laptops that were first introduced in the 1990’s.
One of my aims has been to bring as many of our present students in to the Museum to see the rich history of the school. They have all shown great interest in the range of things displayed and usually have no idea how old the school is.
We have also opened the Museum to quite a few adults, usually ex-students, who have contacted me to ask if they could visit. I recently had a couple who now live in Canada visit the Museum on a return trip to the Mornington Peninsula.
I’m happy to continue to accept donations of memorabilia to expand our collections. Please contact me at the school if you have anything that you would like to give to the school. I also want to expand our videos of ex-students. At this stage I have an interview with someone from the 1920’s and someone from the 1940’s. I hope to continue to document each decade later this year.
I would like to build a data base of ex-students to illustrate the wide range of successful careers that Frankston High Students have had but this might have to wait till I have a bit more time!
