Koonung students make CD
Take eleven talented musicians, an audio engineer, a recording studio and “hey presto” a CD is produced! Well not quite! After a number of years developing their instrumental and vocal skills and honing their skill set to a high level the following musicians from the bands, Sonder and Ocean Bourne , spent a day recording five songs, each with outstanding results. These students involved are:
Benjamin Chung, Jamie Foo, Arjun Tickner, Thomas Shelley, Jeremey Creasey, Stanley Liau, Koetsu Sakamoto, Elisha Punay, Patrice Moutzakis, Celeste Watkins and Ryan McDonald
Arriving at the studio at 9.30am the first thing to do was for the audio engineer Adrian to get some good drum sounds from the drummer. Next in line were all the instruments. Now everyone was ready to put on their headphones and make sure they could hear themselves and all the other instruments clearly. All good? Yes, then “Rolling” said the audio engineer. The red light was on and they began recording the first song. “Everyone happy?” “No” – someone says – “I’d like to do the second chorus again”- “Ok lets do it again”. Off they go to get just the right feel, the right notes and the right take. “All good?” asks the engineer. Everyone says yes – ok, onto the next song. And that’s how our recording date played out. However, I am skipping over how everyone was highly focused and wanting to do their very best. The result is they have produced a fabulous CD making every band musician proud.
Please email me by September 16 if you would like a copy of the CD (novelli.marina.a@edumail.vic.gov.au) as we will do one print run only. The cost of the CD is $10 and I think these would make great Christmas presents.
Thank you for the support of instrumental teacher Damien Maughan (who also guested on some tracks), and Rosanna Spina who knew this was going to be a great project for our students.

The Indigenous Mosaic Mural is progressing well. Ms Briffa’s Year 9 Urban Art class are working closely with Debra Amon Cotter to complete the panels.
We were very lucky to obtain a grant from both our wonderful PFA and Johnson Tiles, who have generously donated the tiles. The colour range is specific to the colour palette that we require to complete this beautiful and intricate artwork which will go on display near the steps leading to the library, below the flags.
We welcome all to come to room 34 on Tuesday 11 September at lunchtime and watch the mural being created.
Stay tuned to see the amazing designs the students have created which have been incorporated the spectacular overall design drafted by David Foote.
