2019 VCAL & VET

Reflection

How fast has the VCAL and VET year gone! Congratulations to our VCAL class on achieving Foundation, Intermediate or Senior certificates. Your determination and dedication to your pathway is a reflection of this hard work.

We have had a jam packed program this year and some of our highlights include:

  • Planning and helping run the College swim carnival
  • Participation in interviewing skills workshop run by WCIG Melton
  • Participation in an information session run by the Australian Taxation Office
  • Arranging and inviting local guest speakers as part of a cultural diversity unit
  • Running the College canteen in lei of the athletics carnival
  • Participation in a Bike Education and training program
  • Safe Food Handling training and certification
  • Organising and running middle years HAPE lessons
  • Participating in an engagement and connection program run by Glenn Manton
  • Closely working alongside the local Melton Shire Council on tasks such as reviewing local walking paths, promoting active transport and walk to school month
  • Closely working alongside Future Connect Melton who have been instrumental in assisting work placement options for students
  • Organising and running 2019 Trade Training Centre open day

It was also great this year to see so many students engaged in and enjoying their weekly work placements. This on the job training is so valuable. As a College we are immensely grateful to our local employers who devout their time and energy to training our young VCAL students. We are grateful too, to our students for the way they have conducted themselves in their work placements. We are most hopeful that the connections made with employers translates to apprenticeship and employment opportunities in the future.

Our VCAL students have also seen success in their VET courses, with our year 11’s having a successful introduction to their course and our year 12’s completing their certificates. With this, the Western Edge Cluster 2019 VET awards saw many Kurunjang Secondary College students nominated and successful in receiving awards. Particular congratulations must go to the following students:
