Principal's Report

November 2019

The last few weeks have truly been brilliant opportunities to celebrate our students’ hard work and endeavors.

I would like to begin by congratulating the 10 students of the college who performed on Tuesday 7 November at the “Music Count Us In 2019” concert.

The students collaborated with the Wedge Park Primary School Choir for 2 items – the main song ‘We Are’, which the whole school knew and sang along to, and also ‘Choir’ by Guy Sebastian. They also performed ‘Treasure’ by Bruno Mars and ‘Sucker’ by the Jonas Brothers.

The students performed in front of 1200 people and did an absolutely sensational job!

Congratulations to the following students:

  • AMBER COLLICOAT 11P1
  • THOMAS BAKES 11P2
  • EREN DURAN 11B1
  • REAGAN EDWARDS 11L1
  • ALEX FISICCHIA 9B1
  • ADALIA MATTHEWS 11L1
  • JACOB PETERS 11P1
  • EMILY RUZANJI 10P1
  • CAMILA SIERRA 11P1
  • ANOAK WEIU 10L2

They are a credit to themselves, to their families and to our school community.

Following this event, over the last few weeks we have had well over 1000 members of our school community attend our four traditional celebration events that we offer at this time of the year; the Rock Band Music Concert on the 14th of November, the WEC VET Awards on the Tuesday 19th, the Year 12 Valedictory Celebration on the Wednesday 20th and it all concluded with Tuesday’s 26th November’s wonderful End of Year Music Concert.

The last month’s events have once again reinforced to both me and the college how willing our families and community are in supporting positive and enjoyable events and celebrations which showcase the work of our talented students. Research is very clear as to the importance of celebrating success in everything that we do in life. In schools, and at Kurunjang Secondary College in particular, it is critically important that we celebrate and recognise the exceptional things that students accomplish, both inside and outside of the college. The recognition of students’ success fosters strong relationships among students, families, the college, and the community and creates a positive school culture where students feel valued. We as a school intend to continue to add further new events to our program that demonstrate the multitude of talents that our students have.

These nights could not possibly have occurred without the hard work and organisation of the staff of the college and of the students themselves.

A big thank you to our students. I continue to be amazed by their incredible talent and skills. All of us who attended enjoyed the nights enormously.

I would also like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate all our students who received awards at both the WEC VET Award Night and the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner. It was tremendous to see the diversity and talent of this group of very hard working and committed students. We are all very proud of their achievements.

A big thank you also to all the Kurunjang Secondary College staff who supported all of these events. At the Valedictory dinner, in particular, we had over 40 staff attend the evening which was noted by the Year 12 Captains who came over to thank me on behalf of the Class of 2019.

All of these events could never occur without the dedication and commitment of the Kurunjang staff who coordinate them.

Particularly, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate the following staff:

  • Rose Lewanski and to her team of Carmela Sant, Kellie Radecki, Jen Gianino and Sue Somerton who organised the WEC VET awards.
  • Kelsey Ryan, Carmela Sant, Amber Galvin, Angela Narayan-Butler and Tim Davey for the outstanding success of the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner.
  • Jo Zerafa, Daniel Muscat, Joe Costa, Mark Zerafa, Earl Leonard, Hugh McKelvey and Sam Smith who together with our wonderful music students produced concerts that were full of talent, energy and vitality.

They were all very enjoyable nights. Well done.

Thank you as well to all the parents and friends who attended these events. The willingness of all of the school community to continue supporting our students is greatly appreciated by the school, the staff, and in particular the students.

For those of you who were not able to attend these events, I hope to see you at our next event, the College Awards Night on the evening of Thursday 12th December at Tabcorp Park.

All the details are available on the college website.

I look forward to seeing you then.
