Reading Room Launch

This week we launched Reading Room and the response was overwhelmingly positive! 

Reading Room is a new, fully integrated program for Years 7 – 9 .  The program aims to:

* Introduce a reading culture at St Joseph’s College

* Support the aims of the English Curriculum

* Support students in achieving improved reading, writing and language skills, and improved vocabulary

* Support students to achieve all the documented benefits of regular reading, including improved concentration and focus, increased general knowledge, increased creativity, and enhanced wellbeing.

Reading Room exposes students through talk, discussion and multimedia resources to a range of reading genre, styles and formats. It enables students to set goals for their reading and to record and evaluate their achievements. In conjunction with classroom study, it exposes students to the ‘power of language’, encourages them to make connections between texts, and to experience a variety of reading possibilities.

Reading Room aims to make even our most reluctant readers experience the overwhelming benefits of reading and to find joy in the practice.  What great start we’ve made this week!
