Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart Community
Covid-19 Virus Update
In these unprecedented times, I have an obligation to commence my contribution to school newsletter, with an update on our school's procedures during these challenging times. However please be assured, we are functioning as normal as possible, with our student's learning being its normal priority. Evidence of this will be found in the articles as you read this newsletter.
An informative video you may want to share with your children can be found using the following link. We know of the importance of trying to allay our children's concerns about the virus. We know that as do some adults, some children will be finding the current situation we face, a time of anxiety. We know that it is important to talk with our children, and not to dismiss their questions and apprehensions. This video may be a useful catalyst for a talk with your children.

As you can see from the photo below of Future and Gail Martina, our students are diligently washing their hands before they eat at recess and lunch, and when they return to class after each of these breaks. We are not conducting any whole school gatherings and classes have been asked not to come together for learning activities. Our choir is not coming together to practice. Our teachers have been preparing learning content in the event of our school being asked to close by the government. Letters will be sent home to each family tomorrow, and I ask that you keep these in a safe place for future reference. Listed below are events, which have had to be cancelled or postponed due to the virus:
All incursion/excursions have been cancelled/postponed
Open day - cancelled
School photos - postponed
Year 3/4 - sleepover - postponed
Bunning's BBQ - fundraiser - cancelled
Year 3 Sacrament of Reconciliation - tbc
Year 5/6 Sacrament of Confirmation - cancelled
Year 5/6 camp - postponed
Winter - Inter school sport - cancelled
At times as adults, we can learn about appropriate selfless behaviour from the younger members of our society. When Chloe was not feeling well earlier in the week, her friends were happy to spend their recess looking after her. As you can see from the photo, Chloe was feeling better fairly soon. Well done Year Preps.
Easter Raffle
Our Year Six school leaders have been selling Easter egg raffle tickets after school each night this week, and will continue to do so up until Thursday of next week. The raffle will be drawn on the last day of school, with all proceeds going to buy resources for the school. I would like to give a big "shout out" to Stefanie Ricardo for sourcing the eggs as donations and Jodi and Sheldon for organising the prizes. Stefanie, Jodi and Sheldon, your work is really appreciated.
Thank you
I would like to finish my Principal's news section this week, with a thank you. I know that some principal's have had the added burden during these challenging times, of parents with unrealistic expectations and/or parents demanding principals to make decisions that they are not authourised to do. I would like to thank all the parents and guardians of our students for your trust. Questions and queries I have received, have been presented in the most respectful way. We know these are unprecedented times, but your support has been really appreciated.
I would like to thank the passionate staff of our school. Like you, they have concerns about their loved ones and yes, themselves. However at all times our school motto, "Students are at the heart of everything we do", has been evidenced by their unfailing commitment to keep our students safe with minimal interruption to their learning.
Thank you everyone, and let's remember to continue to look after each other.
Yours Sincerely
Mark Tierney
