PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Scott Diamond

The last two weeks have seen Year 12 VCE students begin their exams. We have been very proud of the way this group of students have approached this exam period, particularly at the extra study opportunities that the students have taken up each day here at the school. We look to continuing to support this dedicated group of young people through this significant period in their schooling lives.

FLOURISH – School Gymnasium Building Project

In exciting news, the extension project on the school gymnasium is set to begin on November 25. This extension will see the school stadium transformed into a four court complex with the school enjoying a second court to use each day for classroom teaching and student use. As with any building project there will be some disruptions to the overall use of the school grounds. In this particular project temporary fencing will be erect around the north and east side of the current gymnasium building. The overall project will also see a new bike shelter built with the position of this to be adjacent to the Hands on Learning classroom.

Please also be aware that these building works will result in a number of car parking spaces been taken up in the Shire lane. As such we would encourage all parents who use the space for drop off and pick up to please use the parking spaces and turning circle on the east side of the Grant Pavilion.

We look forward to keeping the community informed of how these works are progressing in future weeks and months.

UNITE – Music @ SCSC

Congratulations to the Year 9 students who were part of the Cloud Nine music performance that took place here at the school on Wednesday night. The students should be so proud of their performances and also the wonderful support they provided to each other. It was wonderful to see them publicly thank their music teacher Evan Jones for the terrific work he does to get students performance ready. We now look forward to the Artwave exhibition evening, which is always a highlight of our calendar, on the evening of Thursday November 21.

STRIVE – Staffing News

Over the next couple of weeks, we will bid farewell to two important members of the Surf Coast Secondary College staff group. Firstly, Jarrod MacDonald, who has been our IT technician for the past seven years and has done a huge job in supporting the development of our IT program here at SCSC, has been successful in gaining an IT management role at Clonard College.  We wish Jarrod well with this new work venture and thank him sincerely for the wonderful work he has completed with us. We also farewell James Clyne who is the founding Artisan teacher in our Hands on Learning program and has supported so many students here at the college to re-engage with their learning and develop new and important hands on skills. James has also been the coordinating staff member for our Surf Academy supporting this program in a very positive way. James has taken the opportunity to re-join the police force and will be entering the police Academy later this month. We wish James well and thank him for the great work he has done at SCSC.

RESPECT – Student Uniform

Again a big thank you to all families who have supported the recent work to drive improvement in our School uniform compliance. This effort is continuing to make a positive impact at the school with students responding respectfully and positively to this push.
