Resource Centre

Sofie Norello
Head of Resource Centre
The start of the 2020 school year has been very busy. The Year 7 students have all visited the Resource Centre for an Orientation session where they met the library staff and became familiar with the library collections and services. The Year 7 students excitedly completed a library treasure hunt that led them to all corners of the Resource Centre.
The library monitors have been busily working at the front desk during recess and lunch, assisting with student enquiries and lending and returning books. We thank them for their invaluable help.
Congratulations to the Library Leaders; Avvalnoor Rekhi, Jigyasa Rawat and Nour Ollaik.
Book Club will meet regularly on Monday Week A at lunchtime. The Book Club members have already begun discussing their favourite books, making recommendations to each other, completing quizzes and planning for the year. Congratulations to the Book Club Leaders; Sera Itisgen (Senior), Leanne Paul and Sylvia Trinh (Junior).
Many classes have been into the Resource Centre to begin their wider reading program for the year. Students have been eagerly borrowing the latest and most popular books in the genre of their choice. It has been wonderful to see so many students during silent reading time engrossed in their books and enjoying the pleasure of reading.
The Reading Challenge has begun. All students from Year 7 to Year 12 have been invited to take up the challenge. This year the challenge is a little different in that we are asking students to complete a Book Bingo Card. As students reach each level they will receive a prize. There will be prizes at Levels 1, 2 and 3. The ultimate goal is to complete the Book Bingo Card. Those who complete the card will be rewarded with a celebratory lunch at the end of the year. I encourage all students to give the Reading Challenge a go.
As always, there is a fun competition happening in the Resource Centre. This term, students are invited to send in photos of their pets reading books for the Pets Love Reading Too Competition. We have had some amusing entries of dogs, cats, guinea pigs and rabbits all enjoying a good book.
We welcome Mr Adrian Schober to the Resource Centre Team. We hope he enjoys working with the Marian Community in his role as a teacher librarian.
