FACILITIES UPDATE

Our much awaited, newly developed play area is near completion. We can’t wait to drop the temporary fencing and enable our students to roam throughout the beautiful landscaping, play areas and also access the bike rack.

Whilst these works were being conducted, it was discovered that a fire hydrant pipe (that runs beneath the ground) would interfere with the installation of our play structure. The play structure plans are currently on hold until further guidance becomes available.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAY AND CURRICULUM DAY

Thursday 2nd June - Professional Practice Day

Victorian schools have been recommended to hold their Term 2 Professional Practice Day on the same day for all staff (dates will vary between individual schools). OGPS staff will participate in curriculum planning, student assessment and reporting activities on their Professional Practice Day. Students are not required to attend school on this day.

Term 3 Professional Practice Day information will be shared when it becomes available.

Friday 3rd June – Curriculum Day

Staff will be involved in a day of professional learning with Narissa Leung, an Australian Literacy consultant who specialises in the 6 + 1 traits of writing. The learning will support the staff’s ongoing commitment and continued development of writing, as set out in the school’s annual implementation plan. Students are not required to attend school on this day.

Please refer to the 'Parent Information page' in the newsletter regarding Camp Australia care for these days.

We hope the early notice of these dates will assist you with your planning.

FIRE SERVICES

A review of the OGPS fire services was recently conducted by a company called the FG Group, via the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA). Last week both Scott and myself met with Kennedy’s Plumbing who have been contracted to install two large water tanks, new pipes and new hydrants to ensure greater fire protection. When the final plan is completed, we will be able to share it with you via the newsletter.

ANZAC DAY CEREMONY

Last Friday our School Captains led a small ceremony in memory of the ANZACs. I congratulate the captains that led this very special and meaningful ceremony.

CONGRATULATIONS

Ashlee Mackinder recently competed at the State swimming competition in the Butterfly event and finished 6th overall. We are aware that some of Ashlee’s preparation was interrupted and that she has done an amazing effort. Well done Ashlee, OGPS is extremely proud of you.

NAPLAN

Good luck to our Year 3 and Year 5 students for next week as they commence NAPLAN. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. Please see further information regarding NAPLAN provided in this newsletter 'NAPLAN 2022'.

MOTHER’S DAY

Wishing those significant adults in our children’s lives a lovely day on Sunday. We hope you enjoy the special creations that are currently being prepared at school.

PARENTS AND FRIENDS

Thank you to our amazing and wonderful Parents and Friends Committee - such an enthusiastic group who are working ever so hard for our school community. I REALLY encourage you to have a look at their page within this newsletter 'Parents and Friends Club Page'. They are currently organising a fabulous event - The Ladies Luncheon. This event aims to bring together our community of mums, grandmas, carers and special people to celebrate together. I'm sure many friendships and connections will be formed from attending this event. Book your tickets via the link on the P & F newsletter page and have fun everyone!

ASSEMBLIES

We are soooooo happy to be able to encourage our families along to our Friday assembly gatherings at 2.40pm. Please remember to physically distance. Assemblies may be conducted outdoors (top basketball court) or indoors (gym). Don’t forget to check out which assembly is on each week e.g. junior, senior or whole school assembly.

Information is located on the 'Calendar Dates 2022' page of this newsletter.

We really look forward to seeing you.

MATHS CHALLENGE

Don’t forget to check out the weekly Maths Problem (found on the curriculum page of this newsletter). We encourage our students and their families to have a go at these challenging problems and pop your answers into the mailbox outside of the 4AL classroom. Good luck everyone!

Have a great week everyone,

Kristy
