Classroom Reports

Foundation & Year 1
Welcome back!
We hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and some of the beautiful weather. In Inquiry this term, our topic is 'Weather in my World'. We are all very keen to be a Meteorologist. Our first week back was a wet one, spending most of our lunch and recess inside. I'm hoping our little Meteorologists can forecast some nice autumn days.
We are also looking forward to catching up with everyone on Thursday for Learning Conversations.
Mrs Chalmers, Classroom Teacher
Years 1 & 2
What great weather we had for our Cross Country yesterday. Well done to all our students for participating and encouraging each other. There were big smiles all around!
Just a reminder that Thursday is our Learning Conversations. This is a great chance to touch base with how your child is tracking at school, both academically and socially. I look forward to seeing you all then.
This term in Inquiry we are completing a unit called “Waterworks”. We will find out where water comes from, what it’s used for and how we can be responsible. The students will be doing different investigations to find out some answers. Some small tasks may need to be completed at home.
Keep up the home reading. We are getting some very fluent and expressive readers!
Have a good week.

VCAL/VCE
It has been a great but busy start to Term 2 for our senior students. The combined Year 10/11 Debutante Ball was held on Friday 29th April. Despite the wind and the rain all participants looked splendid and all who attended had a wonderful night.
COVID has continued to make its mark in classes, but now is the time to remember to really look after yourself. Make sure you are eating properly and getting plenty of rest. It’s a great time to start Vitamin C to ward off the Winter colds and flus.
Sue Clay continues to send through the Careers Newsletter so students are encouraged to look at dates for Uni Open Days, course information, apprenticeship opportunities etc. Pam McConville from the LLEN is continuing visits to school this term and will have one on one time with the senior students.
This week we have Learning Conversations and it would be hoped to continue the strong relationship between home and school, that parents/carers have made appointment times with the teachers. Don’t miss this opportunity to get some feedback on your student’s progress. We will have further Learning Conversations in July, but it is important to receive feedback now.
Next week all students in Years 10,11 and 12 will be visiting the Fosterville Gold Mine. This isn’t just about getting a job in a gold mine, but looking at the vast career opportunities this company offers. The students will be surprised to see what goes on in such a large organisation. All students are expected to attend and should have made the necessary arrangements with TAFE and work placement where necessary.
All VCAL students have their work placement sorted and you would have seen through local publications, as well as social media, the students themselves thanking their supervisors. Thanks goes to Robyn for all of her hard work in this area.
Students are reminded that COMMUNICATION is one of the most important requirements for this year. Thank you to the students who email their teachers to inform of absences and get work etc. Thank you to those who answer teachers’ emails, so we know we have been heard. Remember there is an attendance requirement for both VCAL and VCE, so students need to be adhering to it. Look up your handbook or ask a staff member if you have forgotten what the requirement is.
