Huge $$$ Announcement  for Wedderburn College

I am delighted to inform families and the wider Wedderburn community of an announcement we received in person yesterday from Victorian State MP Jaala Pulford, Upper House Member for Western Victoria.   As announced in the  Victorian State Budget for the 2022/23 financial year, a rock solid commitment of $12.9 million dollars of building works has been allocated to  Wedderburn College (one of 29 schools in the State).  As you know we have  been pushing hard for reinstatement works around the secondary Block A toilets and classroom spaces as well as upgrades for the Wellbeing Centre and the KLC stadium roof.  This funding will allow us to do this and more.  Although not finalised we are all now dreaming of a new  Science, Art and Home Economic spaces!  Parents and students will also be able to submit ideas for consideration.   We are very excited and we can't wait to start work which we understand is certainly a once in a lifetime project of privilege to be involved in.  I would like to thank the staff, Wedderburn College School Council and in particular Dean Lockhart for spending extra time and long hours to negotiate and push for better resources for everybody at Wedderburn College.  In the end our students for the next few decades will be the major winners.   Please understand the funding is for the next financial year and we don't receive it immediately.   We look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Welcome to Jericho Stewart Steel

We congratulate Annita (Year 5/6 teacher last year), Hayden & Astrid Steel on the safe arrival of Jericho on the  22.04.22. weighing 3kg.  All healthy, but has some big feet to grow into. We wish the Steel family all the very best.

OHSC Update - Childcare

Don't forget to submit your Childcare OHSC forms into the school front office as we would like to open the OHSC next Monday 9th May.   Please contact the school office if you require new forms.  We also urge you to submit forms even if you plan to use the service on an occasional basis.  Please contact the school if you need any assistance.

Line Landscaping in the Holidays

On return from the holidays the primary students were surprised to see new hopscotch lines, impressive blue bat tennis and down ball lines added to the school grounds.   An impressive and colourful 'line up' caterpillar was also painted for the Foundation/1 students.

Cross Country Win to Jacka

Unfortunately a higher power has been conspiring against me in 2022 with regard to schools sports days as I have been unable to attend one so far.   On Friday  I unfortunately tested  positive to COVID meaning I am not back at school until this Friday.  This meant I missed the Deb Ball and the Cross Country as well as many other school activities.     I was happy to hear, however, that the Jacka students made a great effort to bring home the Cross Country Trophy for 2022, thus evening up the series Jacka - 1 and Ansett - 1.    A huge thanks to all staff, students and parents who assisted in anyway with the Cross Country event.  I would like to convey a special thank you to the PE team for all  the organisation and especially ensuring no rain this year!  I was particularly impressed with the students encouraging each other, especially the senior students who ran beside junior students encouraging them all the way to the finish line.  Well done everybody.

Deb Ball

A busy start to Term 2 saw the successful running of the 2022 Wedderburn College Debutante Ball.   A special thanks to Dede Williams for once again training the Debs and their partners, especially for persevering throughout the many 'Covid obstacles' and delays to lead an extremely well delivered presentation. Thank you to the volunteers who decorated and helped organise the event.  Well done to the Debs, their partners and families for an amazing effort. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves.  A more comprehensive report is featured in this week's newsletter.

College Cafe Update

We have had a lot of work completed in the new College Cafe over the school holidays.  We are in the final stages of installing new equipment followed by a final clean up in readiness to move into the new space over the next two weeks.  It will be exciting for us to be able to use this new space.

School Fete

I want to  say a massive thank-you to everyone for all your efforts in making the School Easter Fete a huge success once again.  Thanks for all the donations, assistance and your attendance at the Fete.   A huge thank you to the Stall Holders and Community Groups for supporting the Fete with your displays. Thanks to everyone for doing your little bit, especially the students and staff members.   It was truly a wonderful way to finish the term and I am sure we look forward to a bigger and better Easter Extravaganza in 2023.
