English

Term 4 sees the culmination of much of the year’s learning in English. Year 8 students are applying their knowledge of writing and performance by delivering dramatic monologues; Years 9 and 10 will be assessed on their capacity to read and write about previously unseen texts on Identity and Representations of War; and Year 12 students recently completed their HSC examinations. Despite a challenging first exam, most students reported confidence in their ability to engage with each question. Year 11 now embark on a new HSC syllabus, one presenting new challenges but rewarding creative and independent thinking.
In addition to classroom learning, students in Years 8, 9 and 10 attended performances by the Bell Shakespeare theatre company. The performances of Macbeth: The Rehearsal and Shakespeare is Dead, exposed students to the dramatic function of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as the connections between language and context.
