Community Association

 Everyone is welcome!

A note from Amy from the St John's School Community Association (CA)

As we have all started venturing back into the world, it has been really great to reconnect with those of you I know and also to meet some of the new families who have joined us over the past few years.

I was having a chat with a parent a few weeks ago who was telling me about how much he loved going to the mother's day stall when he was a child, clutching that coin in his hand, as his class all filed past the table and looked at all the lovely gifts for the mothers, grandmothers and special people, agonising over what to spend that precious coin on, what he could and couldn't afford and what his mum would really love.

As he was talking, I was taken back to primary school too, remembering the excitement of getting to spend "actual money" comparing gifts with the other kids, admiring what I had bought, showing my sister, and then smuggling the item home in my bag and jamming it under my bed so my parents didn't see this special item until the special day!

Sure, I remember the weekly math quiz and my most favourite teacher (Mrs Kamerer, you were the best!) but I have SO many other special school memories. These include the School disco night, year level progressive dinners (who remembers progressive dinners?), Easter bonnet parade, Easter raffle, Grand Final BBQ sausage day, the school fete, school roller skating night (at the Skate Ranch in Nunawading, showing my age there!), Mother's and Father's Day Stalls, ordering a book from Lucky Book Club, Doing THE NUTBUSH at school assembly (not sure why, but it was fun!), bus trips to play sport against other schools, Jump Rope for Heart....the list goes on and on...

So many of my memories of these fun parts of school were run by my parents and other students' parents, grandparents and carers.

They were organised by the School Parent's Association/Community Association.

Now, this nostalgic Dad is going to work on our St John's Mother's Day stall (yes we are going to have a mother's day stall!), so that his child can also have the same wonderful school memories that he had. We can have a Mother's Day stall this year because a couple of amazing CA stalwarts and this Dad are giving up a few hours of their time to prepare and run the stall on the day.

We had a really productive CA meeting last week and we are really happy to let you all know that we have come up with lots of really fantastic events for 2022.

BUT...without you, these memory-making events won't be able to go ahead, so it has come to that time again, where I call out for your contributions and support!

We'd love you to join us, as we really need as many of you who can spare some time to please come along to the next CA meeting. If you can't come to the meeting you can email us and let us know what you would like to be a part of. Or, you can email us and tell us what you remember, what meant something to you when you were at school, and we will enable you; to make this happen. So here are our ideas -
