School Sport - Year 3/4 and 5/6 Interschool Sport Gala Days

St John’s Year 3/4 and 5/6 students were able to participate in a Summer Sports Round Robin with other schools in our district.

The students participated in either Hot Shots Tennis, Newcombe or Soccer. The round robin format for each sport was played at Nunawading Tennis Club for Hot Shots Tennis and Elgar Park for Newcombe and Soccer. All students particpated in the various sports with great results.

It was a dramatic start to the day for the Year 3/4 students with the all of the sprinklers making the ground nice and wet! However, once we got over the initial shock our day began and we had a fantastic time. One of our soccer teams did really well in their draw and all of our students played with great sportsmanship. Goals were scored by many team members and we had lots of fun. The tennis team was also very successful and came runners-up in their competition.

Mini Stalls - Year 3-6 Inquiry Learning

Dungeons and Dragons Stall
Dungeons and Dragons Stall

Last week our Year 3-6 students put into action their Inquiry Learning in Economics to create their own Small Businesses. They worked in small groups collaborating to create a successful business or service. They worked out what they would need, the stock required, expenditure and sales projections. Each group created a script for a persuasive advertisement for their goods or services stall. These were in the form of Posters for Year 3/4 and as recorded videos for the Year 5/6 students. The ads were presented at assembly to promote their stalls and the posters were hung around the school. The day was a huge success, with most stalls making a good profit to support their chosen charities. Time was given to research the given charities, looking into their benefits. The charities selected were:

-World Vision

-Caritas

-St Vincent De Paul’s

-Salvation Army.

It is inspiring to see our students taking action on their research and learning which links in with their Religious Education learning also.
