Prep

During these final days together as a Prep family, the children have enjoyed creative and artistic experiences. Some projects we have resumed, and others are in celebration of Advent as we prepare for the magical memory of Christmas Day.

Year One

The final few weeks of Term 4, 2021 has been a busy time for Year 1. We have finished up our Term 4 units of focus, started learning about Advent, we went on two excursions to watch performances and an excursion down to Sandown park for the Early Years Athletics Day. Take a look at some of the photos captured from some of these experiences.

Year Two

Year 2 students have been investigating historically significant places of Hobart.  They wrote reports, sketched their chosen building, structure or landscape and then constructed a model of it using 'magiclay'. Here are some examples of our work.

On Friday 26 November, the Kindergarten to Year 3 students travelled to the Playhouse Theatre to watch the 2021 End of Year Pantomime "The Story of the Grumbly Green Grouch".

Charlie is the odd one out in their hometown of Twoville, where everything comes in perfect pairs (including their annoying twin brothers). Every year the townspeople choose the person with the most Christmas spirit to hang the star on the tree, this is Charlie’s lifelong dream. When the Christmas tree is stolen in the night by the mischievous Grinch and enthusiastic sidekick Spot the dog, Charlie sets out to retrieve it and save Christmas. On the way, Charlie meets new friends that teach Charlie that being different is okay; Abby the Abominable snowman and Pots the Scout Leader. Charlie learns an important lesson about accepting people for who they are and embracing our differences.

The students had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the actors as they left the theatre.  The lead role was played by a former Mount Carmel Year 2 student Maya Manaena.

Year Three

We would like to thank Mrs Saville, Miss Brereton, Mrs Jones, Mrs Koerner, Mrs Hill, Mr Castano and Mr Avis and all the members of staff for all of their hard work this year.

We send out our thanks and prayers to Mrs Burrill, Mr Higginbotham, Mr Clark, Ms Alderdice, Mr Desmarchelier, Ms Lincoln and Mrs Doust for helping us this year.

Finally, we would like to thank our parents and carers for their love and support.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Year 3.

Year Four

On Friday 3 December, Peter Mitchell (Mitch) visited Year Four for the morning in order to conduct a session using the Spirit of Jesus resource. Spirit of Jesus is a valuable resource that aims to assist students in developing a lifelong relationship with Jesus and his message. The activities encourage students to become ‘switched on’ to the presence of Jesus’ spirit in their daily lives.

Piper, Penelope and Mimi recounted their experiences of the morning;

Throughout the year Mitch has come to our school and taught us about SOJ, also known as Spirit of Jesus. We learnt lots of things, but I think the most important thing as BIY, which means Believe in Yourself. He is saying never give up on yourself no matter how hard time can be.

Piper Orr

My favourite thing that we did …… was making our Spirit of Jesus cards. We had to look through our SOJ books picking little sayings as we went, then writing them down on cards in coloured gel pens and then used stickers from the back of our books. It was amazing fun and it helped us learn more about ourselves and I think that 99% of people learnt something new about themselves.

Penelope Villanueva

The SOJ is how Jesus would act but instead it is shown through us each time we smile at someone or unstack the dishwasher.  Simple acts of love, kindness and care can make a difference.

Mimi Bakker

One of the greatest gifts we can give our students is the realisation that they have the Spirit of Jesus in their hearts and they can recognise his Spirit in them and others.

Year Five Navy

We are each of us an angel with only one wing, and we fly by embracing one another.

Luciano De Crescenzo

Christmas would not be the same without a beautiful angel hanging from the tree or as part of a display and the Year 5 Navy students certainly took on the task of creating their own with aplomb.  Although simple and rustic they are full of charm and the most beautiful collage to make the wings stand out.  The results speak for themselves.
