Parent Association’s purpose is to organise activities for students and their families in order to help them come together as a school community. In the past, Parent Association had two purposes. Firstly, to provide services to the school community such as the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls. Secondly, they were also responsible for fundraising to fund particular projects within the school.
It was found that organising the fundraising activities was very time consuming and parents when surveyed, responded that they would prefer to pay a fundraising levy in lieu of having to participate in fundraising activities. In 2018 the school introduced the fundraising levy in lieu of fundraising activities. Some of the projects that the fundraising levy has been used for are the bike shed, the water taps and all the creative resurfaced external areas the students get to enjoy. If you have not already had a chance to pay the fundraising levy but wish to do so, please contact the school.
Some of our service activities such as the Mother's and Father's day stall, do however raise a small profit. These profits are then used to pay for products or activities for the students, such as the Water Play Day.
Buddy benches
Buddy benches are benches that students who are feeling lonely or isolated can use to let other students know that they need someone to play with. After the last 2 years of remote learning, it has been identified as something that might be worth reintroducing into the yard to help students who may be struggling with friendships.
It has been decided that the profits from the 3 ice-cream stalls this month will be used to fund 2 benches. One will be for the Junior students and another for Seniors. Grade 6 students volunteered their time to run the ice cream stalls as their contribution towards the benches and this will be part of their legacy for future students. $897.00 was raised from the stalls. Thank you to all students who purchased an ice cream and contributed to this project. It was lovely to see the students enjoying their ice creams.
Working Parties
In order for Parent Association to run effectively, we depend heavily on volunteers. We welcome not only parents but grandparents and other carers. We have even also had older siblings help out. In order to make the best use of volunteers’ time, we have been setting up working parties to organise and run events. When we need to organise an event, we will put a call out for volunteers. Volunteers will likely meet in person to come up with a plan. The rest of the work is then done over an online messaging platform. We usually then only come again on the actual day of the event. Working parties are a great way to get involved while meeting new parents. We are currently looking for volunteers to form a working party for Mother’s Day. This would be for the stall and the breakfast. If you are interested in being a part of this working party, please let us know via this form
