2019 School Payments & Contributions

2019 School Payments and Contributions will be available for processing on Compass from tomorrow afternoon, Friday 16th November.

Full payment and booklist information will be sent out via compass once it has been made live.

It is the school’s preference that all payments are made via the Compass Parent Portal as you will be able to complete all annual school agreements required at the same time. Compass accepts Visa Debit and Credit cards.

Payment plans are also available if you pay via Compass. This is the recommended option if you intend to pay for all essential and voluntary contributions, but perhaps cannot do so right now.

Manual payments can be made at the office by cash, cheque, credit card or EFTPOS.  If you choose this option you must still access Compass to complete the annual school agreements.

Manual payments will not be accepted over the phone or by writing credit card details on the bottom of the payment slip.

Payment Plan Dates

If you have signed up to a payment plan for the 2019 School Payments the dates of your automatically deducted installments are below. Please mark them in your diary. Dates will also be in the Compass Calendar.

Should any payments fail to be processed, you will receive an email from Compass. Please contact the office should this occur to have the issue rectified. It is the card holders responsibility to ensure any changes to card details are updated with the office to avoid missed or unprocessed installments.

Student Banking 2019

After great discussion and consultation, School Council has decided that Ormond Primary will not be continuing the Commonwealth Bank Student Banking Program in 2019.

Student Banking will continue as per normal for the remainder of 2018, with the last day of banking taking place on Thursday 13th December.

Second Hand Uniform

A big shout out to Rachel Marsden and her group of parents who have helped throughout the year to set up, sell and pack up the stall and to Ms Park for letting us take over her class room! Your time and effort you have kindly provided to the school community is greatly appreciated.

This year our school community has contributed positively to the environment in a spectacular way!

By running the second hand uniform stall four times a year we put into practise the earth caring principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle by selling great school uniforms that others have grown out of or sometimes not even worn.

This little exercise reduces the need to impact on the environment by buying new every time and helps families to save money which is not only sensible but helpful in saving money for other important things families need.

It has also raised more than $2000 for our school improvement projects!

If you would like to contribute to help the environment and the school next year please leave your details with Brodie in the office.

SRC Round Up

On behalf of the SRC team, we would like to say a huge thanks to each and every one of you for your help and support in 2018.

We have achieved so much from collecting money to donate to the ‘Breast Cancer Foundation,’ donating gifts to help families in need this Christmas through Anglicare and selling  badges for ANZAC Day and poppies for Remembrance Day.

Anglicare Drive

The SRC team were overwhelmed to see Ormond Primary School donate so many wonderful gifts to help families in need this Christmas. We know that Anglicare are grateful and we hope to continue this tradition at the end of 2019.

As a thank you, all students can come dressed in casual clothes on Friday 14th December. No gold coin donations needed.

We hope you have a happy, safe and enjoyable holiday and the SRC look forward to working with Ormond Primary School in 2019.

Warm Regards,

Jade Zajonc and the SRC team

Year 3 News

‘I am Alive’ in Year 3 Science

During Term 4 the Year 3 students have been investigating their biological Science unit, ‘I am alive’. Students are researching what criteria define what is a living, non-living or once living ‘thing’ and believe us it’s not as straightforward as it sounds!

To support their inquiry, students extended their investigations beyond the classroom. Earlier this term, they trooped down to our wonderful local resource Allnutt Park for some fieldwork. After some ‘mindfulness’ under the trees where we sat with our eyes closed and tried to pick out how many different birds calls we could hear, we started to investigate the number of species of tree, bush, flower, seed and insect we could identify using our investigators collecting kits, gloves and magnifying glasses. The highlights of the trip were discovering a Rainbow Lorikeet’s nest perched at the top of a Gumnut tree and ‘Ludo’ the amazing high jumping Golden Retriever who could catch a Frisbee at two metres up in the air! The students ‘Explorer’s Journals’ were jam-packed with their observations by the time we left the park. Such was the experience, they then all wrote a persuasive text entitled, “Parks are essential for a happy life in the suburbs” upon their return to school.

To further build on their knowledge, Year 3 then visited Melbourne Museum for their ‘Bugs Lab’ program. They attended a workshop where they learnt about exoskeletons and much, much more. The IMAX film ‘Mighty Micro Monsters’ about bug superheroes was a real highlight. Did you know that there is a beetle that can fire boiling chemicals at its attackers from its back end?!

To assist with our once-living focus on paleontology, we visited the dinosaur display and were enthralled by the sheer size of these species. Students were able to closely examine the size of huge jaws, talons and claws as well as look at fossils of sea creatures, dinosaur ribcages and even dinosaur poo!

These excursions provided much food for thought for their upcoming assessment dioramas and information reports.

Year 4 News

A few weeks ago the Year 4 students travelled on the train into the city to visit the offices of ‘The Big Issue’. As part of our studies on Civics and Citizenship, Year 4 students attended workshops at 'The Big Issue' where they thought about the future of their communities and discussed actions they could take to promote social justice. They also found out about homelessness in Australia. Students then shared positive quotes that they wrote up on coloured cardboard with members of the public, whilst walking along Princes Bridge and around Federation Square.

Last Thursday the students travelled to CERES Education Centre where they  participated in a range of cultural programs aimed at discovering traditional and contemporary celebrations and customs which are part of Australia’s multicultural society. Students were particularly excited about learning about a traditional Indian wedding ceremony which goes over five days. Several students were fortunate enough to be ‘married’ in a mock ceremony which involved the girls being dressed in a sari and the boys in traditional clothing for a groom. Students also had the opportunity to have a henna design painted onto their hands and a ‘bindi’ painted onto their foreheads. Students got to crush ochre and turn it into paint which is used by indigenous Australians to record their stories on rock art.

Sports News

Congratulations to the OPS Lawn Bowls team on reaching the Grand Final in the Friday Inter-school sport competition! It was a very competitive match with scores very close until the last round, where unfortunately OPS was just pipped at the post to gain Runner's Up.

Well done to all the students and Ms Dell for coaching you all season. You should be all wonderfully proud of your achievements.
