Principal's Message

Welcome back to FPS for 2019

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome staff, students and parents back to Fitzroy Primary School for 2019. A further welcome to our new students and their parents. This year we welcome over twenty new Foundation students to the school and I hope that their transition to primary school is smooth and enjoyable. This year we welcome back some returning teachers: Camelia returns to Fitzroy after a year’s absence and is taking the 5/6 class, and Jasna returns also after a year away and takes one of our F/1 classes. We also welcome Rebecca, who will be teaching French to our Foundation students, and Synti, who is taking over Chris’ role in the Kitchen Garden. There have been some staff movements within the school also. Jamie has moved to the George Street site and will be a teacher for F/1 and Julia has also joined the George Street team as the Year 1/2 teacher. Nick will be supporting Vicki in sharing the 4/5 class in the Napier Street building.

The school’s refurbished reception space has now opened and includes a cosy and comfortable waiting room for parents and visitors. The refurbished space is fresh and bright and will be complemented in coming weeks with new signage and furniture. All parents and other visitors are encouraged to drop by to say hello to Hatice and Susan and to view the renovated facilities.

Can I ask that all parents check important school dates at the front of the newsletter. Both school photos and parent-teacher interviews are taking place in coming weeks. In particular, parent-teacher interviews are an important opportunity for parents to discuss their child’s education with their child’s teacher. These discussions form the basis of the school and parents working together to best support individual students. Further information about parent-teacher interviews will be sent home early next week.
