Secondary School News

Charter House Day, September 2019.

From the Deputy Principal Pastoral Care, Nick Jones

Over the past week we have welcomed presenters from Youth Focus to speak with parents and students on the topic of mental health. Of particular interest to me was the emphasis placed on the term ‘mental wellness’. Just like our physical health, we can be proactive in monitoring, promoting and strengthening our own mental health. There are some simple things that we can do to help support our own mental well-being. These include;

  • Ensuring we are getting enough sleep
  • Consuming a well-balanced diet, high in fruits and vegetables
  • Exercising regularly
  • Limiting time spent online
  • Staying connected with family and friends

I regularly recommend these strategies to Year 12s as they begin thinking about the ATAR examinations that are fast approaching.  It can be tempting for students to neglect their own physical and mental health as they increase the time they spend on study and revision. Ensuring we maintain moderation and balance in our lives is a very 'old fashioned' piece of advice, however in today’s fast paced and technology rich environment, I believe that this recommendation is more important than ever before.

Our school continues to provide many opportunities for our students to be involved as active members of the school community. Over the remaining weeks of Term 3, we look forward to;

  • Secondary House Music Eisteddfod - Tuesday 10 September
  • Paul Dillon – presentation to parents on Teenagers, Alcohol and other Drugs 2019 - Tuesday 17 September
  • Grandparents' Day and the House Shout - Friday 20 September
  • Pre-Primary to Year 12 Colour Explosion - Friday 20 September
  • Year 10 Cape to Cape Encounter - Tuesday 24 - Friday 27 September

Student Uniform and Presentation

I continue to seek parent/guardian support regarding student uniform and presentation standards at school. I remind all members of the school community of our uniform and presentation standards and refer you to the Student Handbook via the portal page on SEQTA for specific guidelines and expectations.

All the best.
