Leadership Report
We all know our school is busy with many activities occurring at any one time. The last fortnight has been no exception. Our children and staff have been involved in a variety of activities including; the Footsteps dance program in preparation for our annual concert in term 4, ‘Door Wars’ - a continuation from Book Week, a yoga incursion, ‘Girls in Stem’ excursion and so much more. The Year Sixes have been frantically preparing for their Market Day and of course everybody has been involved in Sports Day preparations!
Road and building works continue to impact our movements in and around the school. As reported in our last newsletter, the Reception and Year One students have settled into their new spaces. It really is wonderful to see how well our students from Reception to Year 6 are co-existing. Older children are mindful of little people sharing their space and our juniors are adapting to their new play areas happily! This does not mean we stop conversations and reminders about being kind, considerate and tolerant of one another. It takes a village to raise a child; when a message is consistent and universal it has greater impact.
You may have noticed we now have pedestrian lights on Magill Road. This is fabulous news and certainly takes away a lot of pressure from our traffic monitors and teachers who assist them. While the lights are installed, road works are ongoing nearby, with changes to traffic and parking conditions continuing.
Over the last week we have been impacted by the passing of Queen Elizabeth the Second. Regardless of personal opinion, there can be no argument this is an occasion of historical significance and one that will impact Australians in many practical ways. For example, as a point of interest, we will no longer have barristers referred to as ‘Queen’s Council (QC’s) but King’s Council (KC’s). As for Magill School, the most immediate impact is we now have a public holiday or National Day of Mourning next Thursday, September 22nd. This falls on the day after Sports Day and might be appreciated by numerous tired children (and their teachers). We are looking forward to seeing families in attendance this year. Please remember to socially distance from others and to allow your children to focus on the day under their teacher’s guidance. Sports Day is one of the school calendar’s most significant for all concerned. It takes a huge amount of organisation and energy. Your cooperation on the day will be much appreciated. Follow your child’s teacher’s guidance and cues.
Thank you in advance and see you there.
Kind regards,
Erica Teumohenga
