NATIONAL TREE DAY
Friday the 29th of July was National Tree Day, this is a call to action for all Australians to put their hands in the earth and give back to their community. Federal Member for Dunkley - Peta Murphy MP joined our student leaders to plant a Eucalyptus Radiata (Narrow-leaf Peppermint) near our Hands on Learning buildings. Peta also spent time talking to our students about areas of concern for them as teens and they have given her some homework to do around mental health support for schools and the impacts of vaping on our community. A big thanks to Peta for her time and also to our HOL students and staff for preparing the area for the tree to be planted.
MOONLIT SANCTUARY
This week, year 7 Science students attended an excursion to the Moonlit Sanctuary. Students were somewhat impressed to have a giant python thrust in their faces, but even more excited to see it wrap itself around their teacher's neck, who looked more like a Mafia boss than a science teacher in this moment.
Other highlights of the day included feeding wallabies, seeing many spring born baby animals and the debacle of 90 students all trying to buy hot chips from a usually quiet canteen. All in all, it was a lovely Spring day, an opportunity to collect vital data for students' research projects.
HPV
The Human Powered Vehicle program is back in full action with students meeting on Fridays after school to clean and restore vehicles ready for upcoming races. It is lovely to see students across all year levels work together, sharing knowledge and skills.
