Radio Active

Our VET students performed on Friday night with WAAPA students at the AEC. Mr Fowler says it was the best-ever Radio Active concert; students were ‘pumped’, well-rehearsed, confident and relaxed on stage. It was smiles all around.

Ruby Fasolo reflected:

On Friday night, the Year Eleven and Twelve VET music students had the amazing opportunity of working with WAAPA and the ASHS students to perform in Radio Active at the AEC. Throughout the week, we had rehearsals with WAAPA and it was such a great opportunity to be working with such amazing musicians. We even got to work with Sophie Scott, an ex-Grammar student who graduated in 2018, and has been studying at WAAPA since. Everyone did extremely well, and it was a lot of fun. I’m sure everyone was very grateful to experience working with such inspiring people. All the VET music students have been working really hard for this, and it was great to see so many of the GSG community coming to watch and support us. Thank you especially to Mr Fowler and Ms Luxton for making it all possible, as we couldn’t have done it without them.

Cinefest

We are very proud of our successes at the Cinefest Festival last Thursday night in Busselton. The students have all worked very hard on their short films about the theme ‘Space’; Henry Baker’s film Lemon and the Pelicans was described as ready for release! As the Principal notes, Media Teacher Miss Katie Gunning won the Champion Teacher Award.

It is an outstanding achievement to have students performing to this level. Please find our students' short films here.

Next year’s theme is 'Switch' - there are sure to be some great films made!

gARmenT

Last weekend was also the inaugural gARmenT wearable art show. There were 40 garments showcased on the catwalk at Albany Town Hall that will now be exhibited in the Town Hall’s gallery. Students have worked with mentoring artist, Ms Mand Markey to create three garments inspired by the Red Moort Reserve and the need to look after this fragile landscape. The garments represented the red moort flower, the echidna and the black cockatoo. They were ably modelled by Year Ten students, Ella Anderson, Dannielle Frost and Lily Quick.

Red Moort Whole School Arts Exhibition

The whole school arts exhibition is coming up! It will be held in the Annette Knight Centre on Sunday 11 September from 3.00pm to 5.00pm, showcasing creative work from Djinda students to Year Twelve. Refreshments will be available for purchase, including yummy burgers from the Market Grill food truck. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate our students’ artwork.

Kingfisher Concert

Make sure you get your tickets to the Kingfisher Concert coming up on Wednesday 14 September at the Albany Entertainment Centre at 7.00pm. All our amazing musical talent will be showcased and it promises to be a wonderful evening: Great Southern Grammar Presents Kingfisher Concert | Arts and Culture Trust (artsculturetrust.wa.gov.au)
