Middle School Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians

We have had a great term. The students have settled into school life, and it now feels familiar being together again.

We really appreciate and value the opportunity to be able to work with you to support your child’s learning journey. It was great to chat to you at the many events held this term including; Course Information Evening, the College Production Mama Mia, Course Counselling Interviews and of course, Parent Teacher Interviews.

The students have had many opportunities this term to engage in fun activities alongside their learning program.

Early this term we had the year 7 camp at The Summit. This has really helped students connect with others and make new friends. Year 7 students have had cultural incursions such as the Taiko Drums Rindo as part of the Japanese cultural experience. Many students from all year levels participated in the Mama Mia Production –after several postponements, it was wonderful that it finally took place. It was also great that so many of our year 7s were involved both in the production or backstage. It was a great show.

We also had year 7 students participate in the National Aerobic Championships in Queensland- not only was it a great experience but they performed brilliantly in such hotly contested competition.

This term we introduced Tech Tuesdays for the year 7s at lunchtime overseen by Coordinator Mr Malligan and we have Flourish for the year 7 girls Wednesday lunchtime, and this is overseen by Coordinator Ms Sugarman.

Year 7 students recently had an encounter with Wildlife as part of their Science course. An incursion of reptiles and various wild species were presented. The students really enjoyed it.

They also attended the Mike Rolls incursion that focused on resilience. Mike tells the story about how he was affected by meningococcal and the loss of limbs. He presents this in a humorous manner and the students respond enthusiastically towards his positivity and resilience.

The last 2 days the year 7 students have engaged in their Learning By Design activities; building towers, creating a tree of life, tabloid sports, trivia and team sports. It has been a great couple of days.

Students from years 7 to 10 also participated in a health promotion that looked at the dangers of Vaping.

Year 7, 8 and 9 students had the opportunity to participate in year level sports days throughout the term. Each year level had teams in all sports. The students represent the college with pride and return to school having performed their best.

Since returning on site, we have focused on student wellbeing as well as student learning. We want every child to feel connected to the school and we offer lots of clubs and events so that students can make new friends and acquire new skills. We have also provided sausage sizzles and egg and bacon breakfasts for students across the year levels.

The Year 8 Health and Wellbeing week provided activities such as: making stress balls, team building, yoga and meditation, beach walks and tabloid sports. It also focused on nutrition and healthy habits.

Our year 8 students really enjoyed this as well as the sausage sizzle on the last day.

Year 9 students had a fund raiser for Mums Supporting Families in Need and were provided with a bacon and egg breakfast.

Year 9 students participated in the Morrisby testing throughout the term. The platform helps young people discover a career path that inspires them and can assist the students to learn about themselves and discover careers and subjects that they may not have imagined. The students have really engaged in the Morrisby testing and the personalised discussion.

Wishing you all an enjoyable break and I look forward to seeing you next term.
