MOD Excursion

Year 8 IGNITE Students MOD Excursion

Invisibility is everywhere.  It’s the people we don’t notice, the environmental changes we can’t see, and the algorithms working behind the scenes, (MOD, 2022). What becomes visible when we start paying attention?  This was the question posed to all year 8 IGNITE students who recently visited the University of South Australia’s Museum of Discovery (MOD). The aim of this visit was to launch the Invisibility School Design Challenge which these students are currently working on as part of their year 8 IGNITE HASS program.

Students were given a guided tour by MOD staff and engaged with a range of thought-provoking exhibitions.  These prompted the group to consider four different perspectives of invisibility: equity, privacy, detention and attention.

Following this excursion, students are currently working collaboratively, using the Design Thinking Process, to create a speculative new product or service in order to help make something/someone visible. Their creations will soon be submitted with winning entries to be displayed at the MOD until the Invisibility exhibition ends in late November.  Further details of the services/products created will be included in the next newsletter.  In the meantime, well done and good luck to the year 8 IGNITE students.
