Career Expo 2022

Kass Holmes, Vocational Education Training Leader

On Thursday 11 August all senior students at Aberfoyle Park High School were given the opportunity to gain information about post school options at our Career Expo. This was aligned with course counselling which occurred in the following weeks. The Expo ran from 12.00pm–3.15pm allowing students time to explore and gain knowledge.

The Expo was held on school grounds in the Community Gym. Students attended during a lesson in the day. They had the opportunity to discuss with Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s), University ambassadors and representatives from organisations and learn about career pathways and courses. With 60 presenters attending the goal was to include as many trade areas that are relevant for the 21st Century and in particular to Aberfoyle Park High School students.

The lunch time session was open for all students to visit and collect information about courses and future pathways. The presenters were busy the entire time answering questions and handing out brochures. The presenters feedback was that the students were well prepared asking pertinent and relevant questions. The students found that this was extremely helpful to find out information about courses and organisations that can help and support them with their career pathways.

What was exciting was that once again there was an evening session, 5.00pm-7.00pm for parents and the community to come along and also learn about courses, future pathways and opportunities in South Australia and the local area.

The attendance was excellent with over 250 people in the evening, despite the rain and cold weather. With the coffee van outside for lovely hot options and the amazing Introduction to Hospitality class serving a selection of ‘tasters’ to showcase their expertise, it certainly made the experience even more inviting.

The presenters feedback included many commenting on the ‘Community’ feel from the attendance and questions posed. Many students commented that the Career Expo was extremely beneficial in helping them learn about courses which supported them choosing subjects and pathways for 2023.

Thank you to everyone for their support and encouragement of the Career Expo.
