Choir

The choir are busy preparing for our School Fete this year and all students will be invited to participate on the day. I am including a Google Doc with all the songs and lyrics we will be singing to allow students to rehearse and sing along at home. Please encourage them to do so, you might even like to sing along with them.

Aus Dance Incursion

On Thursday 15 September, Aus Dance Vic are coming to St John’s to deliver a Dance Incursion titled Supercharged. The specialist timetable will change to accommodate the incursion. The Year 5/6 and 3/4  classes will be involved on this date and I strongly suggest all 3/4  and 5/6 students wear their PE uniform, bring their enthusiasm and respectful behaviour.

Year 3/4 Recorders

In PA lessons, all Year 3/4 students are learning the recorder. Due to the enthusiasm from the students, I have decided to allow them to take the recorders home for the upcoming holiday break. I will also send home a booklet of the music and notes we are learning as any extra practise at home is bound to help them. The trick to the recorder is ensuring their fingers are fully covering each of the holes on the recorder to create the correct note and by practising this in front of a mirror and hearing only their sound, as opposed to the entire class, which will help them to hear if they are doing it correctly. Also breathing into the recorder and cutting off the sound by using their tongues will help to create a nice crisp sound.  There is no pressure at all to bring it home so please chat to your child beforehand in case you don’t want this noisy instrument at home!  It is essential, however, that they come back to school on the first day back, so it is ready for our lessons on Thursday. They will be handed out this Thursday as we have the Dance Incursion next week.
