Chemical Reaction

Last week in STEM the students in Year 3/4 finally had the opportunity to set their Volcanoes live. They have spent many weeks planning, designing, creating and prepoaring their volcanoes to discover more about chemical reactions. They collaborated in groups to work out the best way to make their volcanoes erupt.

The end product was very exciting and each group succesfully presented their exploding masterpieces. It was very timely as the Head of the Outer Eastern Regional Office for MACS, Marwin Austerberry, was in attendance at our school. She was just as excited as the students to see their experiments in action. Well done to all of our Year 3/4 students.

Year 5/6 Cooking in STEM Classes

The Year 5/6 students were also studying chemical reactions but they applied their knowledge and skills in the kitchen. They were experimenting with how different ingredients can change from solid to liquid or to gas. They also researched how different ingredients can change when combined with otehr ingredients and how the cooking or cooling process can change liquids to solids. It was not only fun to investigate but also very tasty.
