From our Principal

Exams
The Year 12’s have commenced their exam program and soon thereafter we have our Year 10s and Year 11’s commencing theirs. It is critical that our students in Year 10 and Year 11 utilise these last days of revision. The exam process is a learning process and is designed to not only assess knowledge but also to ensure all students have the experience and training in how to complete exams under the strict examination conditions they will experience in the VCE. I wish all students undertaking exams the very best and encourage you all to be the best as you approach these final assessments.
Art and Technology Campus - Clyde North
This Monday evening many of us enjoyed the wonderful and creative talents of our students. The Art and Technology exhibition show-cased students work from a wide variety of mediums including: Art, Visual communication, Design Technology – Wood, Metal, Textiles, Food and Engineering. Robotics and Digital Technologies as well as Integrated Studies. We were also entertained beautifully by the VET Music students. The process of concept to design to finished product is a wonderful experience and it was a joy to share the moment with staff, students and parents.
Congratulations to the Principal Prize award recipient: Arizona Durbin
Her piece of Art was her final artwork and is a large semi-abstract landscape. It is a mixed media piece featuring soft, murky colours and a mixture of heavy textures starting from the bottom then gradually the colours and textures become softer at the top. In this piece Arizona pictures herself standing on top of a hill, looking down onto a murky looking beach and the pale blue resin is a wave. It reminds her of her grandparent's place.
Congratulations Arizona, a provocative piece which will now be hung in the Bishop Coffey Centre for Creativity and be an inspiration for others.
Honourable mentions to:
Cassandra Guevarra for her piece titled – “Nothing’s Wrong”
Arienne Suaiso for her piece titled – “Influence”
Congratulations to the Principal's Prize for Technology award recipient: Josh Bartlett
Josh’s table, produced in Metal Fabrication, represents many qualities including, creativity, precision and accuracy of the manufacture. The upcycling of Spotted Gum timber from reclaimed flooring and a clean modernist aesthetic made this a stunning piece which grabbed the eyes of the judging panel.
Congratulations Josh.
Honourable mentions to:
Shonal Naidu - Check overalls
Mariel Garcia - Navy jumpsuit
This was the first year the Clyde Nth Campus has had Textiles at Year 10 level, so it’s a wonderful achievement for two pieces to be considered as finalists.
Year 9 Bushfire Projects
I was privileged to attend and be part of a number of presentations this week at the Clyde Nth Campus on the topic Bushfires. Groups of students were given a brief and had to present a concept to a number of senior staff as well as the CFA. These projects required a significant number of 21st century learning skills, including Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication and Problem-solving. The CFA provided feedback at the end of the process and acknowledged that some of the concepts could easily be utilised to assist the education of communities as well as support the CFA itself. They highlighted in particular the concepts created to assist in preventing fires as well as the strategies documented to assist firefighters on the frontline. It was terrific for the students to gain such positive and meaningful feedback.
