Premier's Reading Challenge
Well Premier’s Reading Challenge has finished for 2018! Well done to all students who completed their 12 books.
At the Week 7 Primary Assembly, Lara Kuhlmann from Year 1 won the PRC book prize. Tahlia Dellar, also from Year 1, won this week’s. Congratulations Lara & Tahlia. As the Challenge is over now, this week’s prize is the last for the year.
In the next Newsletter I will be able to report on the final number of students who completed this year’s Challenge, and if we broke our 2016 record.
Although the Challenge is over, and the holidays are approaching….DON’T stop reading!

Stories will live forever
It was a privilege to attend the recent event at Kangarilla where students whose stories were shortlisted in the Mayors Short Story Competition were acknowledged and winners of different sections were announced.
From more than 360 entries, our school had 7 stories selected as shortlistings and two winners – Felicity Stone, Year 1, and Angelica Rivera, Year 8, gained awards. Congratulations, girls!!
Some of the student entries introduced interesting characters as we saw when we met Felicity’s Webby (a spider) and Grace Leech’s Bobo (a dog). Clever structure with an end that worked really well was a feature of Sean Kelley’s Transportation. The other four shortlisted students were all in the Year 8-10 category. To read their stories is to go on four very different journeys, from a desperate, thieving orphan’s miraculous escape (Adelle Ocampo), to an extremely intense and gripping bid for freedom (Sharna Begg), to a frightening encounter with a stranger (Margrietha Van Wyk) to Angelica’s winning Light and Darkness which introduces a character who must decide which kingdom she will make her own.
I’d like to congratulate all students who wrote and entered their stories as well as those acknowledged for special achievement. So … keep building your writing skills so you can create and share more of your own stories.
