Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope your children have enjoyed going to Specialist classes over the passed five weeks.
Keep reading for an overview of the tasks in Weeks 6 and 7.
Coming up in P.E:
Prep: Students have been given the opportunity to play on the playground equipment demonstrating safe play.
Grade 1: Students have been given the opportunity to play on the playground equipment demonstrating safe play and body control. Students have used this knowledge when participating in the ‘lava’ game.
Grade 2: Students have recapped safe play on the playground equipment and explored areas where they can safely assist others. Students have applied this knowledge when participating in the ‘lava’ game.
Grade 3: Students have continued to explore the different types of games played in sport, focusing on striking/fielding games and invasion games.
Grade 4: Students have continued to develop their volleyball skills within a game situation.
Grade 5: Students have continued to participate in a range of fitness tests to help develop their understanding of specific components of fitness related to their chosen sports.
Grade 6: Students have continued to participate in a range of fitness tests to help develop their understanding of specific components of fitness related to their chosen sports.
Coming up in French
All students will participate in the First Annual Mardi Gras @ BPS!
Preps: Introduction to the the French words for numbers (1-10) and colours through the songs Bonjour! and Les couleurs.
Grades 1&2: Introduction of French vocabulary relating to self-introductions and
numbers (1-10) through role-plays.
Grades 3&4: Introduction of French vocabulary relating to personal information including favourite colours and numbers in their lives (1-20) through quizzes.
Grades 5&6: Introduction of French alphabet, sound blends, number patterns (1-69) and answering questions through interactive programs.
Coming up in Visual Arts:
Prep – Creating artworks focusing on relationships that look at the concept of connection. Learning to hold drawing and painting tools using the correct grip.
Grade One – Learning how to use the primary colours to mix secondary colours. Applying this knowledge and skill in new artworks that have a still life focus.
Grade Two – Continuing self-portrait unit, focusing on the concept of reflection. Also looking at pattern and symmetry in their designs.
Grade Three – Continuing work on a unit looking at the elements of art, developing of their understanding of texture and colour.
Grade Four – Continuing with wellbeing unit by learning running stitch to start making a wellbeing mascot soft-sculpture.
Grade Five – Continuing one point perspective drawings using coloured pencils, developing understating of rendering and creating light and shade in work.
Grade Six – Continuing learning about light and shade in still life drawing unit. Working on using different art materials to use different drawing techniques that help create light and shade in artwork.
Coming up in Music
Prep: Students have been exploring pitch and sound this week. We are learning to identify between high and low pitches through song, games and movement.
Grade 1: Students have continued to work on rhythm and beat, learning how to play African drums and percussion. We have learned to sing African two folk songs "Funga Alafia" and "Obwisana' and formed a percussion band to accompany our performances!
Grade 2: Students are working on their ukulele skills, focusing on playing two chords A minor and C. We have also learned the African song "Funga Alafia", using Kodaly hand signs and have learned to play along on the ukulele.
Grade 3: Students have worked on group compositions using the beat and 'found' sounds to compose a creative soundscape! We have performed for one another and reflected on both our own and other performances!
Coming up in Drama:
Grade 3 & 4: Students are exploring their creative side through a series of improvisation activities. They are asked to imagine themselves in a situation and perform and react appropriately. Students are also working on their ability to ‘maintain character’ and concentrate on the task given.
Grade 5 & 6: Students have been developing their public speaking skills by focusing on voice, movement and eye contact. Students read a short text to either a small group, or the whole class, and were given feedback in regard to their presentation skills (‘Two stars and a step’ - two things they did well and one area they could work on for next time).
