Message from Aoife and Lauren

Deputy Principals – St John's Footscray

Dear families,

We can't believe that Term 1 is drawing to a close. It has been so good to be back together as a community this term and we're looking forward to creating more opportunities to gather throughout the year. We have had many families enquire about joining us for assembly/prayer gatherings. While restrictions are still in place, and weather permitting, we will hold our assemblies and prayer gatherings outside on Joan's Yard and families are warmly welcomed to join us. Please note that if it rains throughout the day we will have to hold our gathering inside and as space is restricted we will be unable to have families join us. So if the sun is out, we will be too and we would love you to join us!

Our next gatherings are as follows:

Friday 26th March 2:30 pm - 2:45 pm Holy Week - Palm Sunday gathering (led by Prep)

Monday 29th March 9 am - 9:15 am Holy Week - Washing of the Feet (led by Yr 1 Hub)

Tuesday 30th March 9 am - 9:15 am Holy Week - The Last Supper (led by 3/4 Hub)

Wednesday 31st March 9 am - 9:15 am Holy Week - Good Friday (led by 5/6 Hub)

Our Yr 2 Hub will be sharing the story of Easter on our return next term at a Whole School Mass at Our Lady's Church, Thursday 22nd April at 9:30 am.

Andrew and Maria have shared some sporting and musical updates with us (see below), it's fantastic to see and hear the children enjoying these opportunities.

We are also very excited to invite you to join us in exploring 'Our Place, Our Community' in the coming months. Details of these opportunities will be sent home to all families next week when we have dates/times finalised for our experiences.

We send our love to our Year 3 and Year 4 children who will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Monday 29th at Our Lady's Church. Please keep these children and their families in your prayers.

We have included a Lenten prayer below. We also take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Easter and a relaxing break.

Ukulele Club - Tuesday Lunch

We have had a fantastic response to the ukulele club already, with many students keen to give the uke a go! To accommodate all those that have shown interest, we have created a roster so that all year levels can have a turn over the year.

We have begun the roster with the 5/6 & 3/4 hubs to support what they are doing in music classes, and will open it up to the younger year levels later in the year.

Term 2

Weeks 1-5       5/6 Hub

Weeks 6-10     3/4 Hub

Choir - Thursday 2.15pm (Grade 3-6)

The choir is sounding fantastic already! We have been working on developing our choral sound and learning to sing in parts, as well as learning how to respond to the conductor’s direction.

We can’t wait to polish our repertoire and put on our very first performance sometime soon!

Maribyrnong Division Swimming Finals

On the 17th of March a small number of students from St John's travelled to Oak Park Aquatic Centre to compete in the Maribrynong Primary Division Swimming Carnival. Our freestyle and medley relay teams competed strongly and came home with third in both races. Vanessa, Jimmy and Joanna all competed in individual races and swam incredibly well. Joanna placed first in her freestyle race and Jimmy placed first in butterfly and breaststroke. Jimmy and Joanna will now travel to Geelong on this coming Tuesday to compete in the Western Metropolitan Regional Finals. Well done to all of our swimmers who participated in the Maribrynong Division finals and we wish Jimmy and Joanna the best of luck in the Regional finals on Tuesday.

NOTE: The last day of term, Thursday the 1st April is Sports Day finishing at 1pm.  Remember to wear your house colours!
