Raise Mentoring 2021

We are very fortunate at Brookside College to run Raise Foundation’s best practice mentoring program at no charge to students. Selected secondary students are offered one-to-one mentoring with trusted adult volunteers from the community for an hour each week throughout terms 2, 3 and part of term 4.

In order for this program to run in our school, Raise is looking for volunteers from the local community – all you need is a desire to make a difference! Raise provides you with expert training and once matched with a student in your community, the program is structured, managed and supported by a qualified Raise counsellor.

Raise mentors get as much out of the program as the young people. They report beneficial outcomes including contributing to the community, improved listening skills and parenting skills and a connection to the younger generation.

Could you, or someone you know, volunteer time to mentor?

To ensure the best outcomes for our young people, Raise requires mentor to be:

  • 21+ years old
  • Available for 2 hours each week during school hours on a Tuesday between 11.45am and 1.45pm
  • Able to commit every week to a young person between April and October (excluding school holidays)
  • Able to complete 6 online training modules (approx. 3-4 hours) and attend two 2.5 hours virtual group training sessions
  • Provide a Working With Children Check and a Police Check
