Year 3-6 Sector

Year 5 News

In 5C maths, we started off with addition and subtraction. We’ve also been doing place value, learning centres and PBLs.

In writing we are learning about persuasive texts. So far we have learnt about the purpose of persuasive writing, and we’ve also learnt all the different types of persuasive texts, including commercials, speeches, articles, etc.

In P.E we’ve been doing relays. We are training for the Athletics Carnival, and we will also be doing the swimming carnival which is on Wednesday 17th of February.

And lastly in Reading we have been analysing persuasive texts. By Bree, Brooklynn & Kaya 5C

In grade 5 we have been doing analysing persuasive texts in reading and made reading goals and we are increasing our reading stamina in reading books. In writing we’ve also been doing persuasive texts and how to set up our books. In maths we are learning about operations and place value in our lessons. In science we have discussed and created expectations for when we are in the science lab. By Saad 5A 

After our 4-5 weeks school holidays, we were finally back at school with our new classes and teachers. On the first week we did an introduction and getting ready for our new school year. We have now started our learning in grade 5, like analysing, persuasive writing, operations and also some specialist subjects.

We, in grade 5 are having an amazing, fun start to the school year. We are all practising our school values – Rights, Respect, Resilience and Relationships. We also have rules and expectations but if we follow them we will all be safe. This is for you grade 5 – you are amazing!

During the beginning of the 2021 school year, Grade 5 students have made a fantastic transition into their Grade 5 classes. Student’s have been learning about and revisiting the Brookside Vision, Mission and Values whilst also building new friendships with their peers in their Grade 5 classes and creating expectations for their learning and classroom in 2021, as well as developing personal goals and academic goals. 

Throughout the first few weeks of school, students have also started to focus on Analysing and Critiquing in Reading, Persuasive Writing, as well as Operations (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division) and Place Value in Mathematics.

Year 6 News

Here are a few words from our Grade 6 students.

Starting 2021 in Year 6 has been pretty fun, I got to meet my new classmates and teacher Miss Moed!!  

In PE we are getting ready for inter school sports and long jump. In science we have started off by learning about safety and the lab rules. Later we will started learning about viruses!! In French we have started off by greeting people in French and learning numbers. 

Now the things that I am excited about, I am so excited about going to camp to Canberra (if we can still go!). If we go it will be my first time going there. Lastly I am excited about meeting new people who might come to Brookside.

In Year 6 we’ve been doing fractions in maths. We are learning about improper fractions, mixed fractions and proper fractions. In Writing we’ve been learning about persuasive devices in a persuasive text. In reading we have been learning how to analyse a persuasive text and pick out the features and the author’s contention.  

I have also gotten to meet my classmates and my teacher. Year 6 has started of great!!!
