Wellbeing MATTERS!

Wellbeing MATTERS!

Dear Families,

This week's Wellbeing page outlines some information regarding how we keep our students safe and connected at Sacred Heart. We take a look at our school wide Positive Behaviour Intervention and Support (PBIS) program and why it is important to us, we remind Parents about our Child Safe Policy and take a brief look at Mindfulness and how it can help our children. Enjoy the short read.

PBIS - What and why it is so important at Sacred Heart.

At Sacred Heart we use a whole school positive discipline plan for the entire school where the approach is to proactively prevent or reduce challenging behaviors and produce positive outcomes (Turnbull et al., 2002). The focus of this approach is to make problem behavior less effective and desired behavior more relevant. PBIS helps us to create positive environments by utilising proactive strategies such as introducing, defining, modeling, teaching, and supporting positive behavioral expectations school-wide. It is about creating positive school environments so that all children feel safe and can learn.

CHILD SAFETY - Our Commitment

All students enrolled, and any child visiting, Sacred Heart have a right to feel safe and be safe all of the time. The wellbeing of children in our care will always be our first priority and we have zero tolerance for child abuse. We strive to maintain a child safe and child friendly environment where children enjoy school life to the full without any concern for their safety.

We at Sacred Heart recognise that some groups of children are particularly vulnerable and we are committed to promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal/linguistically diverse children and also promoting the safety of children with a disability.

Please make yourself familiar with our Child Safe Policies and Procedures which can be accessed below and on the school website.

See the page on our Newsletter - Child Safe Standards - for more information.

Mindfulness

  • Reduces stress
  • Increases focus
  • Helps develop empathy  and compassion
  • Increases productivity
  • Reduces mind wandering

Mindfulness is simply paying full attention in the moment. It involves relaxed focusing, without any judgement. For kids, mindfulness may be used to help all children.              Growing evidence suggests that teaching mindfulness to children can help with learning, decision making, emotional intelligence, self-confidence and connectedness to others.  Check it out!

Wellbeing Theme for Term One - RESILIENCE

Here are some ways to describe resilience:-

  • Bouncing back after difficult times
  • Dealing with challenges and still holding your head up
  • Giving things a go or trying our best
  • Being strong on the inside
  • Being able to cope with what life throws at you and shrug it off
  • Standing up for yourself
  • Getting back into shape after you have been bent or stretched

Congratulations to week 5’s Resilience Award Winner(s) -

Tessa A - for always giving a helping hand.

Ebony W - for always being kind and caring when others are hurt.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or queries.
