Positive Relationships with our Young People
As parents and guardians, many may recall when our little ones first enter our lives wishing that there was a reference book to support us in our roles as care givers on how to guide and support our precious and vulnerable family members. As they develop into and beyond the teenage years, the nature of the challenges will vary, but there are common themes around boundaries, good communication, expectations and engagement that remain crucial through all stages of development of positive relationships.
Whilst there is no one guide book with all the answers to support our young people, fortunately there has been extensive research by specialists in the field of adolescent development who provide an insight into Positive Parenting and the importance of protecting our young people. Dr Michael Carr-Gregg and his team of specialist emphasise that to parent effectively, it is not enough to avoid dangers like abuse, neglect and overindulgence. Parents and care givers need to find a way to combine warmth and sensitivity with clear behavioural expectations.
SchoolTV Positive Parenting topic provides information regarding how parenting has dramatically changed in the last 20 years, how parents can help children build resilience, sibling rivalry, blended family, optimism, tips on engaging with our young people and numerous additional articles and interviews.
This resource provides a comprehensive and thought-provoking insight into healthy relationships with our young people with some practical examples of ways to take steps forward. A great read for all.
