Parish Bulletin

St Mary’s Parish Prayer

God our Father, as we thank you for the blessings, we ask you to bless this Parish of yours, so that we may love you more.

Encircle our families with your loving care.

Help parents to be good examples to their

children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians.

To the sick grant health, to the aged bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy.

May we grow stronger in faith and may

our love for one another become deeper

in our daily living.

We make this through the intercession of our Mother Mary.  Amen

NEW - Looking at The Readings

The two books of the Chronicles contain 75 chapters in all. Only once do we hear from them on a Sunday, that is today, and it is the very last verses of the Second Book of the Chronicles. As the name suggests, they are historical books but the unknown author gives spiritual and unique perspectives to the salvific events from creation to the return from Babylonian exile. Because of these perspectives the readings are relevant for us in our time. Sin and punishment must be recognised for what they are. Conversion, mercy and forgiveness should be accepted, praised and celebrated.

The Gospel presents another insight into the death and resurrection of Christ before those events. To Nicodemus Christ prepares him for the mystery of the Cross: He is to be lifted up (on the Cross) for all to be saved and gain eternal life. John’s Gospel emphasises the cross as the instrument of glory of God, a sign of God’s love and life for the world.

death he will have on the cross and John was framing Jesus’ death and resurrection as one single act of glorification.

NEW - On the Lighter Side

As new regulations are introduced, they strain on our memories, especially going shopping. In the 1960’s we get to the grocer’s door and remember we left the car key in the ignition; in the 1970’s we go the supermarket and remember we forgot to feed the parking meter; in the 1980’s we get to the front door and return to get the needed shopping list because of failing memory. In the 1990’s we return to the car to get our credit card. In the 2000’s we go back to get our mobile phone, in the 2010’s we return to the car to get the green bags, and now in the 2020’s we return to the car to don our face-masks.

 New - Liturgical Jottings

The Bishop and his priests concelebrate this Mass which he consecrates the holy chrism and blesses the other oils and manifests the communion of the presbyters with their Bishop. The chrism is used to anoint the newly baptised, to seal the candidates for confirmation, and anoint the hands of presbyters and the heads of bishops at their ordination. The oil of catechumens is used in the preparation of the catechumen for their baptism. The oil of the sick is used to bring comfort and support to the sick. Priests share the sacred office of the bishop in building up and sanctifying the people of God.

Ceremonial of Bishops 274

The Mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on

Tuesday 30 March at 11am.

All welcome.

NEW - Fourth Sunday of Lent - Indonesia

Arsad, an Indonesian farmer, had no toilet, so he and his family always had to walk into the forest to an open defecation area.  His family was often sick and open defecation caused many neighbourhood disputes.

With the support of Caritas Australia and its partner, Laz Harfa, Arsad took part in hygiene, sanitation and financial management training. He then funded the building of a toilet in his house and helped other community members to save for toilets.

Now Arsad’s family is healthier. Their community no longer practices open defecation and is more harmonious. Arsad inspired his community to ‘Be More.’

Please donate to Project Compassion 2021 and help people like Arsad continue to grow and reach out to those less fortunate than himself.

  NEW - Lenten Prayer

God of all peoples and nations,

As you accompany us on our Lenten Journey,

May our fasting strengthen our commitment  to live in solidarity,

Our almsgiving be an act of justice, and our prayers anchor us in love and compassion.

Through living simply and loving generously,

May we care for our global family and our common home, as we

“Aspire not to have more, but to BE MORE”

We ask this in Jesus’ name.

 AMEN

NEW - SUPPORT FOR THE HOLY LAND

Our Good Friday Collection  will be for the benefit of the Holy Places and is in  keeping with the spirit of giving. Pope Francis has prescribed as  mandatory, throughout catholicity, the Collection for the Holy Places of the Holy Land.

This collection promotes the missionary work of the Church of the Holy Land by providing welfare assistance to local Christians in areas such as health, education, employment and housing. Parishes, schools, orphanages and medical centres throughout the Holy Land rely on assistance from this collection.

Please remember the Christians of the Holy Land on Good Friday, 2nd. April.
